2008 Winter All-Area

Ice Hockey First Team

G DAVE DONZANTI Soph. West Chester East -- Anchored the Vikings from the back with a 2.34 goals against average in ICSHL play before helping East win three postseason trophies. He stopped 61 of 66 shots he faced in those three title-clinching games.

D ERIC KNODEL Jr. West Chester Rustin -- The best stay-at-home defender in the area used his size to protect the Rustin blue line, and combined with his solid teammates to form the best defensive unit in the area. He also got involved in the offense with nine goals and 12 assists.

D ANDREW LAMONT Soph. West Chester East -- The second East sophomore on the first team proved his versatility when he won the Flyers Cup MVP as a defenseman, despite being a natural forward. Scored four goals in the Flyers Cup and shored up the defense for the impressive playoff run.

D BRIAN WANNER Sr. Conestoga -- Had three goals and 18 assists this season, proving he could help the offense. But Wanner played a pivotal role in a defense that allowed well below three goals per game. He shut out C.B. South in the Flyers Cup semis and shut down potent Pennridge.

F BILLY LATTA Jr. West Chester Henderson -- A strong candidate to repeat as DLN Player of the Year, Latta put up another huge season with 31 goals and 35 assists and helped the 2007 state champs earn the No. 1 seed in the Flyers Cup. Joined Alex Cottle on the area’s most potent scoring line.

F ALEX COTTLE Sr. West Chester Henderson -- Didn’t have the goal totals of Latta or Milana, but he handed out an absurd 40 assists to go with 21 scores. Likely the area’s top play-making forward, Cottle passes first and shoots second, and always seems to have the puck on his tape.

F DOUG MOPPERT Sr. Malvern Prep -- The Friars’ standout, who doubles as a track and field star, had 23 goals and 11 assists this season as Malvern finished second in the Philadelphia AAA division. He also had four short-handed goals, just six penalty minutes, and a plus/minus of 9.

F PAT MCHUGH SR West Chester East -- You can almost ignore the “F” in front of McHugh’s name, as the East senior didn’t even lead his own team in scoring, but proved his versatility as he split the season as a defenseman and a forward. Anchoring a state championship team doesn’t hurt, either.
