More than 44 teams of 2-3 students each squared off in the Oct. 30 competition. The teams worked to complete a series of programming problems and were judged on accuracy and speed. Members of the first place team included Nate Jacobs, Chris Gardner and Trevor Sprinkle. They are pictured with Dr. Suk-Chung Yoon (far left), chair of the computer science department at Widener, their instructor Arlan Dietrich (holding the trophy) and Dr. Harry Augensen (far right), associate dean of science at Widener.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Widener University is a private, metropolitan university that connects curricula to social issues through civic engagement. Shupp has been named Vice President of Berks Economic Partnership (BEP). Jon Scott, President and Chief Executive Officer of BEP, made the announcement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In her new position, Shupp will be responsible for directing and implementing outreach programs for business attraction in Berks County, and expanding a prospect management and site inventory system. Her duties also include serving as a liaison to commercial and industrial real estate brokers, developers, corporate relocation specialists, and site selection consultants. She will coordinate with local, regional, and state economic development agencies and resources to promote business growth in Greater Reading and further enhance the marketing strategies established by the Initiative for a Competitive Greater Reading (ICGR).  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Pamela’s promotion is well deserved in light of her many accomplishments and valuable contributions to our organization. She helped provide the leadership that helped to launch key initiatives such as the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), the Penn Corridor, and the complete rejuvenation of Greater Reading’s Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ),” Scott said.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Scott said Shupp’s extensive background in planning, development, and financing in both the public and private sectors, combined with her knowledge of the Greater Reading region, is a key asset in attracting more business and jobs to the area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Shupp, who joined BEP in 2006 as Director of Economic Development, has more than 25 years of experience in economic and community development with various companies and organizations. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A native of Reading, Shupp received a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Urban and Regional Planning from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA. She earned AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners and is an associate member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR).
