CARROLL CLAIMS CLASS AAA TITLE, 75-54, VS. SALEM

The wait is over, as if it was a long one.

Only one year into its PIAA eligibility, Archbishop Carroll won the PIAA Class AAA state championship, beating Greensburg-Salem, 75-54, at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center.

Junior guard D.J. Irving, pictured, led the way with 17 points and backcourt mate Juan'ya Green had 16 for the Patriots (27-3).

The Patriots' lead was never really in question. They pieced together 19-2 and 20-6 runs in the second and third quarters, respectively, to run away with the game.

More to come on the Patriots' state-title victory in Saturday's Daily Times.
