Archbishop Carroll's girls basketball team completed a feat that has been done only four times before: by winning the Class AAA title over Lampeter-Strasberg, 68-45, the Patriots' boys and girls teams have won state crowns in the same year.

It's only happened on four other occasions:

1999 Blackhawk (District 7) AAA Boys, AAA Girls
2001 Kennedy Christian (District 10) A Boys, A Girls
2001 Trinity (District 3) AA Boys, AA Girls

The Patriots' huge margin of victory Saturday at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center is the largest in five years and the second-largest in the state-title game in the last 14 years. In 2005, Mercyhurst Prep dispatched St. Basil Academy, 67-33.

Hollie Mershon and Erin Shields had 13 apiece to pace the Patriots. Kerri Shields scored all of her 12 points on first-half 3-pointers, and Kaitlin Cole and Jen Carney tallied eight each in the win.
