Getting ready for the Republican National Convention

It is my pleasure to report from the Republican National Convention on a daily basis. I have never been to Minnesota and was told to bring my golf clubs and fly fishing rod. The only problem with that recommendation is that I don’t golf or fly fish. I don’t think I would have time for that kind of thing since I have seen a preview of our delegate schedule and it is packed.
This is my first convention as a delegate (I was a volunteer in Philadelphia in 2000) and I am extremely excited to experience politics on a national stage. I am scheduled to arrive in Minneapolis later today where I hope the travel logistics are smoother than Denver. A few of my Democrat friends told me that the city was nice but getting around was a nightmare.

I learned today that with Hurricane Gustav taking aim at the Gulf Coast the convention agenda and delegate schedule may change. Most of the delegates are extremely involved in their communities and there is talk that the convention may utilize us to assist in the disaster relief efforts. I will provide updates as soon as I find out more information.

As far as political discussions go, the non stop buzz has been about the surprise choice of Gov. Sarah Palin as the vice-presidential candidate. From a purely strategic perspective you have to give the McCain campaign its due. They kept a secret, chose a running mate who solidifies McCain’s maverick image, and did all this on a day that was supposed to have been reserved for the Democrats. Governor Palin’s clear objective for the convention will be to show the delegates and the nation that John McCain made the right choice in a running mate.

I will also be interested to see first hand what steps organizers have taken to make this convention the “greenest” Republican National Convention in history. With the nation focused on energy issues, the party showed real foresight when planning started last year and they decided to focus on sustainability and conservation. There is a fleet of hybrid and ethanol vehicles being used to shuttle attendees and organizers around, as well as an entire fleet of bicycles that attendees can pick up and drop off at will at various locations around the convention area. I also heard that the party asked its vendors to use recycled materials whenever possible – from the signage that will be hanging throughout the arena to the carpets made of recycled material on the floor. And of course, there will be the recycling containers located throughout the convention to cut down on waste.

Great first post Puppio!
You are going to try to figure out how the GOP is going to do "greenwashing", trying to make themselves look environmentally friendly while the Republicans are leading the charge to screw up the air, water and land. Maybe you could ask McSame why he has a long history of voting against anything that helps the environment.

And Palin? It will be fun to see how the Republicans spin this as a positive. Desperate maybe. Politically savvy? If you think the former Hillary supporters are going to vote for Palin just because she has the same body parts, you are crazy. Palin is the anti-Hillary on just about every issue. She believes in creationism!

McSame is no maverick and everythink he has done in the last 8 years was contrived to make him this year's nominee. He sold out to the religious right and to industry. Putting Palin in to shore up this long-gone maverick image is just desperation.

But hey, have a great time Michael. The fun's over and the looting stops on Jan 20, 2009.

Welcome back Seventh Watch Dave. Haven't seen too much of you since you rightfully declared that the Dem candidates for Delaware County Council got heir "asses kicked" last year. Although you have been gone, it seems like have not forgotten your tired ideas and attacks.

Since it seems like you have been using up all your time with your unhealthy obsession with Gil's blog, let me update you on the news since last year.

John McCain led the fight for the surge in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are now on the path to victory.

The Democratic Congress' policies finally took hold, leading to a crash in the housing and financial markets and soaring enegy prices. However, if Americans take the lead of people like Craig Williams we will be on the path to a sound national energy policy and fiscal restraint in government spending.

Speaking of Congress, you must be awful disappointed in Admiral Surrender (otherwise known as the Congressman from Alexandria, er, Newtown Square, er, Edgmont). It didn't take long for him to turn his back on his supporters on war issues. Not to worry, I'm sure he'll hold another seminar on some inane topic. Yawn. This guy makes Bob Edgar look like Ronald Reagan, for crissakes! Personally, I thought he was robbed at the Beijing Olympics. I thought Joe's backflips, contortions and flip flops were much better than that bunch of underage Chinese girls!

Glad to see you are already taking shots at Sarah Palin. I continue to be amazed that Obama and his supporters feel the need to belittle the accomplishments of women in order to try to make themselves look better. Why is that?

Gov. Sarah Palin looks like the real deal. She has accomplished more in her time as governor than most do in two terms! I bet Ed Rendell would like to be able to say he has accomplished as much as she has!

Gov. Palin, like John McCain, is the kind of dynamic leader that America is looking for these days. They are right on the issues and are not afraid to debate their opponents. She has talked the talk and walked the walk!

Speaking of debates, it is a shame that the Messiah refused to participate in the 10 town hall debates that John McCain proposed for this summer. That would have allowed the American people to really understand the candidates positions. Why would Obama be scared of doing this? I suppose that it took a lot of effort and planning this summer to pull of the Barackopolis last week. Picking out fake columns and fireworks displays must be a lot of work!

Seventh,
Ah, always on the attack. Much like those liberal bloggers over at the main Democratic Party gathering place on the web -- Daily Kos -- who were claiming Sarah Palin's 17y-ear old daughter was really the mother of her 4 month old baby with Down syndrome. Today's announcement that her daughter is pregnant proved that incorrect -- but have you leftist bloggers no shame? Are you so bitter that you can never have an open and civil debate without always being on the attack? Or worse, making up lies about people?
