Kiwanis Club's Annual Halloween Party

The Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville will be holding its Annual Halloween Party and Movie and teh Colonial Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Doors open at 1 p.m. There will be a costume parade at 1:30 p.m. and the movie, Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin, starts at 2 p.m.

Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in this event.

Spring-Ford plans Homecoming festivities

ROYERSFORD -- A festive weekend is in store for Spring-Ford High School alumni who attend this year's Homecoming celebration, which begins for the public on Friday, Oct. 23 and continues into Saturday, Oct. 24.

Festivities will kick off with the annual Powder Puff football game, in which junior and senior girls compete on the playing field, with junior and senior boys serving as cheerleaders. The game, sponsored by the group SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), will begin at 5 p.m. in Coach McNelly stadium. Tickets are $3 per person and will be available at the door. The goal is to raise approximately $5,000 for autism treatment and research. After the game, a bonfire will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. A Spring-Ford Alumni Association social will be held at the Royersford VFW, 730 S. 4th Ave., from 7 to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the fun begins at noon with a parade in Royersford. The parade will begin at 7th Avenue and Washington Street, where the procession will march down 7th Avenue to Main Street. The parade will turn left on Main and continue to 5th Avenue and then turn left onto Green Street. From Green Street, the parade will end behind Coach McNelly Stadium.

The parade will feature the talents of Spring-Ford High School's championship Golden Ram Marching Band, the chorus and the Spring-Ford Middle School Band, and will include floats by various high school clubs. Athletic team members, School Board members, local dignitaries, local fire companies and the Rowdy Ram will all make appearances. Superintendent Dr. Marsha Hurda will serve as Grand Marshal.

The football game versus Boyertown High School will begin around 2 p.m., but gates will open at 12:30 p.m. and the public is invited to watch performances by Boyertown's marching band, as well as the introduction of the Homecoming Court. At half-time, Spring-Ford's Homecoming Queen will be announced, the Court will be presented, and the Golden Ram Marching Band will perform.

The Phoenixville annual Halloween Parade will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 20 starting at 7 p.m. The Parade route will begin at Borough Hall and wind its way through Church, Main and Bridge Streets, ending at Family Dollar.

Pa. Wind Band to Play at Valley Forge

The Pennsylvania Symphonic Wind Band will hold their Annual Fall Concert at Valley Forge Military Academy & College, in Mellon Hall on October 25, 2009 at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Proceeds generated from ticket sales will help fund the VFMA&C Choir trip to London, England where they will perform with the London International Choral Festival on December 28th.
The program for the concert will consist of Dance Macabre, Blues for a Killed Cat, A Fantasy of Flight as well as many more!
Be sure to come out and enjoy the “Festive Fall Fun!”

One Heart. has taken another trip to West Virginia - this time to Bradshaw. Bradshaw is one of the poorest areas in the U.S. The families and children are living day-to-day to make ends meet and meet the needs of the family.

One Heart. is taking one more load on Oct. 23 - before winter arrives in West Virginia's mountains.

One Heart. is asking for appliances, furniture of all types, rockers, pots and pans, baby food, coats, scarves, formula, diapers and clothing, dishes, hats and gloves, general housewares, toys, tools, adult health aids such as walkers, adult diapers, and just about anything that will go in a home.

The HAVE IT YOUR WAY ® Foundation today announced it has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships to a total of 944 students nationwide as part of the ninth annual BURGER KING ® Scholars Program. Among the winners are 83 students from Pennsylvania, including Jena Herner form Phoenixville High School.

“It’s especially gratifying that the BURGER KING ® Scholars Program can continue to offer financial support in this challenging economic environment and enable high-achieving, dedicated students to continue their education and pursuit of successful careers,” said HAVE IT YOUR WAY ® Foundation’s Executive Director Ivette Diaz.

Created in memory of BURGER KING ® co-founder, James W. McLamore, the BURGER KING ® Scholars Program has awarded a total of 12,720 scholarships representing more than $12.7 million since the program’s inception in 2000. S cholarship awards are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or a post-secondary vocational/technical school. Students throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada are eligible for the scholarships.

Sixty-one (61) of the PA high school seniors were awarded $1,000 scholarships. These BURGER KING ® Scholars are selected based on their grade point average, work experience, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service.

Additionally, 16 BURGER KING ® student employees from NC were awarded $1,000 scholarships and six were awarded $5,000 scholarships. These recipients are selected based on their academic achievements, financial need and community involvement. In addition, they must have worked for the company for at least one year.

Iron Hill Brewery wins gold and silver

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, with eight locations in the mid-Atlantic region, won a gold and silver medal for its beers at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival (GABF) held his past weekend in Denver, CO. Iron Hill has entered the GABF and medaled every year for the past 13, bringing their total medals to 30.

“Competing in the GABF is a huge honor, and we are thrilled to bring home two more medals this year,” says Director of Brewing Operations Mark Edelson. “We are very proud of the brewers who work tirelessly, day in and day out, to ensure that Iron Hill produces and sells some of the finest beers around, and it is a special treat to be able to honor them this way for their achievements year after year.”

Iron Hill beers earning medals at this year’s GABF are Schwarzbier, a gold-medal winner for “German-Style Schwarzbier,” created by Phoenixville Head Brewer Tim Stumpf and Raspberry Torte, a silver-medal winner for “American-Style Sour Ale,” from Media Head Brewer Bob Barrar, Iron Hill’s most award-winning brewer who has medaled every year since 2002, bringing his total to 10 GABF medals.

Phoenixville Arts Stroll

Phoenixville is becoming known for its emerging arts and entertainment scene. Currently, the downtown area is home to four distinct art studio’s including Phoenix Village Art Studio, Diving Cat Studio & Gallery, Luttmann Studios, and the Upstairs Studio Artists. The Historic Phoenixville Arts Stroll, to be held this Saturday (10/3/09) will feature these four studios and a collection of guest artists and musicians along the eighteen stops of the stroll. The stroll will start at the Phoenix Village Art Center, founded in 2004, where guests can pick up a detailed brochure of the stroll. Eighteen area businesses are participating by allowing artists and/or musicians to use their storefronts to showcase their talent. The Phoenixville Area Business Association’s events committee collaborated with Maryann Worrell, local artist and art instructor in finding unique artists to showcase in the stroll. Jane Tucker of Steel City Coffee House and Iron Town Productions brought in musicians from a variety of genre’s to perform at various stops on the stroll, including The Flying Mango’s (A Latin-Caribbean fusion trio) and Spirit Wing (A Native American Duo) among others. The event will start at 3:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM, but participants can start the stroll at any time and any pace. Some stops on the stroll include new businesses, Gould Frame at 4 Main Street and Twisted Leaf Cigars at 153 Bridge Street. Dinniman to hold Spring City Town Hall Meeting

WEST CHESTER -- State Senator Andy Dinniman will hold a Town Hall meeting on Saturday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at the Grace Assembly of God in Spring City to discuss budget, education, transportation and other state issues with residents.

"I know that many local residents have questions and concerns about the state budget and how it will affect their lives and their families. These meetings are an excellent way to keep in touch with my constituents and their views," Dinniman said.

Dinniman has been extremely active in Spring City and the surrounding area, encouraging the Commonwealth to invest in local parks, community and veterans programs and emergency services. Most recently, he worked to secure 96 acres of open space for East Vincent Township.

The meeting is open to the public, but seating is limited.

Horse Power for Life's 2nd Annual Cancer Walk

CANCER WALK on October 24

Horse Power for Life, a non-profit organization in Chester county that provides horsemanship programs to families living with cancer, will be hosting its 2nd Annual Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 24th from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at Warwick County Park located at 191 County Park Road in Pottstown. Join us for a walk through the beautiful shaded trails and picnic in the covered pavilion. The day will include a provided lunch and beverage, raffle prizes, face painting, "paint a horse shoe" activity and two playgrounds. Dogs and horses welcome and dogs will receive a pink Horse Power bandana. Cost is $10.00 per person, $5.00 for children under 12 yrs, and children under 2 yrs free. Payment is due at entrance the day of walk.
