Softball First Team

P CAROLINE RAYMOND SOPH D’TOWN WEST
A sophomore, Raymond led the Whippets to fthe top spot in the Ches-Mont National Division with an ERA of 1.44 and 121 strikeouts in 76 innings. She finished the regular season with a 10-1 record to go along with her .417 batting average.

P EMILY RUF SR KENNETT
After an outstanding junior season in 2007, Ruf came back just as strong as a senior in 2008, leading the Blue Demons to another District 1 berth. Ruf is a commanding pitcher, but it’s her strength at the plate that really puts her in a league of her own.

C STACEY PINNO SR OXFORD
Pinno’s amazing athleticism and rocket arm set her apart from what is a very good crop of area backstops.

1B KATIE SLOAD SOPH D’TOWN EAST
Defensively versatile and a potent force at the plate, Sload can pitch, catch and play first base, all with excellent results. The sophomore was a crucial cog in the Cougars’ mid-season turnaround.

2B LIZZY ADAMS JR D’TOWN WEST
“Quietly good” as coach Jeff Cellucci once called her, Adams batted .353 with 29 hits and 26 runs scored in 82 at bats. She also had 12 RBIs and had a .426 on-base percentage.

3B KELLY COKER JR D’TOWN WEST
Coker batted .481 and had a .567 on base percentage. As the Whippets most valuable offensive player, she knocked in an amazing 39 RBIs and had 39 hits in 81 regular-season at bats. Incredibly, she struck out just seven times in 88 at-bats.

SS CAPRICE DeMIRJIAN SR W.C. RUSTIN
DeMirjian was outstanding at the shortstop position, while also wielding a powerful bat. She will continue her softball career at Drexel University in the fall.

OF ERICA PHELPS SR W.C. EAST
Phelps hit .422 and had a .500 on-base percentage in 64 at-bats. She also scored 26 runs, knocked in 12 runs and had 27 hits while only striking out four times. She will be continuing her softball career at the University of Hartford.

OF KATE SCHOFIELD JR W.C. HENDERSON
Despite a truncated season due to injury, Schofield is one of the most talented outfielders in the area. She also brought home first-team all Ches-Mont honors.

OF JAMIE MORRISON SR COATESVILLE
Morrison was a key piece to the Red Raiders’ thunderous offense by batting .389 with 21 hits, 15 RBIs and scoring 19 runs.

OF ERIN BOVE SR BISHOP SHANAHAN
One of the senior leaders that brought Shanahan from the basement in the Ches-Mont to a district berth, Bove’s athleticism allows her to do it all.

OF KARISA YABLON SR OWEN J. ROBERTS
Finished the season batting .396 with 25 runs scored, 11 doubles and 13 RBIs in 26 games. She also committed zero errors the entire season.

DP JEN BEAVER JR OWEN J. ROBERTS
Beaver helped OJR advance to states by hitting .444 with 11 doubles and 31 RBIs as a junior in 2008. The athletic fielder also had 36 hits and four home runs.
