Text of press release with updated Souderon strike contingency plan
September 3, 2008
DISTRICT CLASSES ARE CANCELLED DURING THE STRIKE.
Any changes in the status of classes will be posted by 8:00 PM on the
district web site (www.soudertonsd.org), posted on SATV–Channel
28 (Comcast Cable Channel), and recorded on the Emergency
Hotline–215-723-4272.
“BACK TO SCHOOL” NIGHTS ARE POSTPONED:
All school “Back to School” nights scheduled while a strike
is in effect are postponed and will be rescheduled.
SCHOOL AND DISTRICT OFFICES ARE OPEN: School and district offices will be open on their regular schedule during a strike.
ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILD CARE: Indian Valley Family YMCA child care is currently filled.
SPORTS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
These activities will continue on a case-by-case basis. Decisions
will be reported via the district’s web site, SATV–Channel
28, and the hotline. Information will also be available by
calling the high school athletic office–215-723-7630.
NORTH MONTCO TECHNICAL CAREER CENTER AND DISTRICT ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS:
North Montco Technical Career Center and district alternative school
classes will continue as scheduled with the district providing
transportation.
North
Montco Technical Career Center Students: If SASD schools are
closed due to a work stoppage, bus transportation will be provided from
Souderton Area High School to NMTCC and back to Souderton Area High
School on school days. Specific plans are below:
•
Parents or students will need to provide their own transportation to
and from Souderton Area High School.
•
All 9th and 10th grade Souderton NMTCC students will attend the First
and Second Sessions at NMTCC. Buses will depart from the front of SAHS
to NMTCC at 7:40 AM.
•
9th and 10th grade students will eat lunch at NMTCC, and will be
returned to the front of SAHS after lunch. They will depart from NMTCC
at 12:05 PM, arriving at SAHS at 12:25 PM.
•
NMTCC Third Session students (11th and 12th grade students) will depart
from SAHS at 11:40 AM and will be returned to the front of Souderton
Area High School at 2:40 PM.
•
Full-time NMTCC students will either transport themselves to NMTCC or
travel on the bus with the 9th and 10th grade students, and return with
the 11th and 12th grade students.
•
Because Souderton Area School District is not able to maintain the same
level of home to home transportation in the event of a work stoppage,
attendance at NMTCC will be the student's option.
• If you have questions or concerns about these arrangements, please contact Sam Varano at 215-723-2808.
OUT-OF-DISTRICT SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES: These classes will continue as scheduled with district-provided transportation.
NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION: Transportation will continue as scheduled.
COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOL PROPERTY: Pre-approved community use of school buildings will be available for community use throughout a strike.
