Districts likely for soccer team
For some reason, when people mention district powerhouses in soccer, E-town's name doesn't come up very often. Sure, the Bears haven't won any district titles lately, but head coach James Sostack always has the team competitive regardless of their level of experience or injuries. The Bears are in the thick of the league and district playoff races year in and year out, and don't get near the credit they deserve most of the time, in my opinion.
Anywho, Peter Davis scored two first half goals yesterday, and the Bears beat Cocalico 2-1 to move to 8-5-1. League playoffs are a stretch for this bunch, considering their tough 1-0 loss to CV last Friday, but anything's possible. However districts, which begin Monday, Oct. 22 with play-in games, is a very real possibility for E-town.
Here's a look at the Section Two standings as of this morning:
Conestoga Valley..................9-4-1
Ephrata.................................8-2-4
E-town..................................8-5-1
Cocalico................................4-9-1
Garden Spot..........................3-10-1
Solanco.................................2-12-0
E-town has two games left, against Garden Spot (today) and Solanco (Saturday), and should finish 10-5-1 for the season.
CV and Ephrata play each other today, and then CV rounds out the season with Garden Spot on Saturday. The Mounts finish on Saturday with Cocalico. For the Bears to make leagues, they must 2-0 the rest of the way and CV must go 0-2. That seems like a tall order, but I've seen crazier things (the National League playoff teams, for example).
When I know if E-town gets into districts, I'll be sure to post it ASAP.
