Cassebaum gets Hall of Fame nod
Former EAHS football coach Jack Cassebaum has been elected to the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
Coach Cassebaum will be formally inducted at a banquet on May 3 at the Susquehanna Fire Company along with former Hempfield basketball coach Barry Henry; former Cocalico basketball coach and football official Spencer Henry; Merv Witmer, the former Ephrata AD, football coach and wrestling coach; Dr. Tom Martin and former Hempfield track star Warren Taylor. The deceased inductee will be James Kuhn.
Tickets for the event are $15 each. For more information, call Rich Gerfin at 684-4818.
Cassebaum is a coaching legend here in E-town, but he also left his mark at J.P. McCaskey, where he coached before coming here. He was at E-town from 1986 to 1991, and the Bears went a combined 50-16-3 in his tenure, reaching double digit wins twice (1987 and 1989) for just the second and third time in school history. (This year's team also hit double digit wins, making it the fourth).
Cassebaum played here, and was a member of that undefeated 1957 E-town team. He remains involved with the program and is very, very deserving of the recognition bestowed up him by the hall of fame.
Congratulations, coach.
