Wrestlers make districts

The Columbia wrestling team is headed to the District 3 Class AA team tournament.
Coach Scott Rupp's team made the post-season on Friday when Pequea Valley, one of the L-L League's three Class AA teams dropped out.

PV said in this morning's Intell, it was because they have injuries and sickness. Believe what you want with this, but, PV's dropping out might have something to do with losing to Donegal and the fact they might have to face the top seed.

The team tournament opens Tuesday night. More info will be posted on Monday.

Because of that, the Tide's match with York Suburban is off and next Saturday's match with York Tech has been moved to Thursday.

While the Tide will perhaps have to face the top seed and travel to perhaps Brandywine Heights, it will give the team a chance to get that feel of the post-season and strive to reach that level each year.

This should not surprise anyone. The PV coach has been pulling this for years. He labors under the illusion that keeping his wrestlers records "intact" will help them with seeding at the sectional tournament. True, a better win-loss record does help when the seeding is decided for the sectional tournament but think of the experience being lost. He has forfeited individual matches so that his wrestler would not have to face a tough opponent. My question is "how many wrestlers has he sent to states over his career". Then ask, how many wrestlers did Kent Lutz send" and how many will Scott send as his career progresses. (Obviously a hypothetical question but I am sure it will be many) Good Luck at Districts Tide. Even if you are facing a superior team, you are still gaining valuable experience. Win or lose, you will be better prepared for the individual post-season.
