Bam attends borough council meeting

The last council meeting of the year was a long, tortuous affair with 13 items on the agenda for discussion and vote. One of the last items was a vote on Bar Blue II, Don Moore and Brandon "Bam" Margera's theatre planned for East Market St. Early in the evening, Margera and his wife Missy Margera, Moore and attorney Bill Shehwen came in and sat down. As the hours passed, the group sat patiently like all the other residents who are there watching their government in action. When the time came for discussion on whether the borough would withdraw their protest to the Liquor Control Board, the four moved up front to face council from the front row. Shehwen, a well-known attorney who handles liquor licenses, discussed the list of concessions they were offering if the borough would withdraw their protest. The list impressed council, even Councilwoman Susan Bayne whose constituents are in the East End. At the end, when it was well past 10:30 p.m., the chief sticking point was the sale of package goods. Patrons attending the theatre could purchase some of the high-end beers and take them home. That prospect didn't sit well with Councilmen Scott Smith or Chuck Christy. Drop that and they would get their support. It seemed like Margera made the decision since he is the one with the deep pockets. But even with the borough withdrawing their protest, there are several neighborhood groups that aren't withdrawing their protest. So Bar Blue II still has to prepare for a hearing before the Liquor Control Board. That hearing should be in 30 to 60 days.

The one hundred block of East Miner Street, which backs up to 142 East Market Street, is a street that already struggles with parking, noise, trash and substance problems. It has been making progress over the last several years. Until now… This establishment will be the only one of its type and magnitude that backs up to a 100% residential street in West Chester.

West Chester is a great town with lots for residents and visitors to do and see, but in the last several years an influx of establishments geared toward late-night entertainment and alcohol have detracted from the peace of those who call the borough home.

Neither Mr. Margera nor Mr. Moore will ever convince me that their choice of location is about anything more than making money. Why else would you put an entertainment venue that will hold up to 400 people within a block of a residential street, Salvation Army, Safe Harbor (substance abuse recovery) center and a children's playground?

The concept is a good one, but their choice of location shows a complete lack of caring for the quality of life of their soon-to-be neighbors. Mr. Moore and Mr. Margera, I am a good neighbor. I hope you and your business's patrons will be as well.

WHERE ARE THESE 400 PEOPLE GOING TO PARK?

I have never seen anything about parking in all the articles about this project.

If they come 2/car that is a min. of 200 cars. There are 2 little parking lots across the street for about 50 cars total. They will be tearing down the Mosteller garage soon. Hopefully they will park in the Centennial garage on High St. but I doubt it. So that means the neighborhood that are already tight on parking will now have to battle with all of Bam's patrons so they can part near their home.

Great! Just what we need!
