Light Kicking, No Screaming Over Stadium
My print column on the prospects for the taxpayer-financed MLS stadium is up.
Left out were a few comments by naysayer Andy Lewis and supporter Linda Cartisano.
Lewis told me the $30 million in county money might be better spent trying to lure a manufacturing business to the city by actually funding the building of a plant. After all, manufacturing jobs typically pay more than part-time stadium work.
Cartisano said the day of Chester as a manufacturing town are over. Those jobs have gone overseas and to Mexico, she said. Better to focus on Chester as a riverfront destination for entertainment, shopping and good living.
All the county money for the project will come from Chester's Harrah's racino revenues which must, by law, go toward economic development.

There are other kinds of manufacturing, Linda. Like pharmaceuticals. The problem is Linda is not a business person and doesnt know what she is talking about.
Drug manufacturing would be a very appropriate industry for Chester. Lol… How about gun manufacturing too?
andy lewis has a great point, I have to side with him. They're taking on the risk for something where they can't even see the books, whats up with that?! Why not lend county money to the cause the next time Linda gets one of those infamous "Foreign Dignitary in distress" emails?
If you would like to vote on the soccer stadium, and whether it's a good idea or not, go to www.haverfordblog.com and look for the poll under "Recent Posts". You need not register to vote.
I’ll vote right here. Dumping more taxpayer money into the crime-ridden black hole of Chester is a mistake. Study after study shows that we never get the promised return on such wasted public investment as stadiums. Good for the Delco Council Repub for taking the time to weigh this more carefully. It should be put to those who will foot this bill via referendum at the ballot box.
