The Pretentious Left

I said something like this several posts ago. This says it better.

Gil, will you be posting something about the Valley Swim Club findings soon?

All democrats and republicans are liars. Don't believe any thing you here from Afghanistan and Iraq unless it came from someone who served over there.

Steve - Smirconish wrote a good column about the swim club in the Sun. Inquirer. Im still trying to figure out why Gil left the "complexion" statement out of his story about the swim club, when the whole story hinged on that statement.

bob, didn't care about the complexion comment - I think the report showed that the director was trying to do the right thing. The email by that teacher was the one that put the club in the hotseat, IMHO

Steve- Maybe so, but the complexion comment was the focus of the investigation, wasn't it?

Bob,
We're getting back into politically-correct hate speech territory, which is both subjective and contrary to the free expression of ideas.
"Complexion" was an awful choice of word by a volunteer unfamiliar with public speaking. To elevate that moment of misspeak into racism is an excessive leap by the thought police.
Actions speak louder than words. This swim club initially invited this inner-city group into their pool. Where was the racism then?

Jake - I agree. Im not arguing that point. All that I was saying was that the "complexion" statement was a poor choice of words, and it sparked this debate. My question is why the "Complexion" comment was left out of Spencers original column about the swim club.

Bob,
I'm neither inclined nor qualified to speak for Gil, but I would be very reluctant to crucify an innocent volunteer for being a poor practitioner of the art of politically-correct double-speak.

bob, 'complexion, didn't do it - the kid overhearing the member (Teacher) asking 'what are these black kids doing here' seemed to be bigger.

Steve - You're right. Now that you mention it, I do remember that. But the complexion statement was a major factor. I found the fact that Gil chose not to mention that in his column to be a bit strange.
Again, I don't believe that the swim clubs director was racist. I just think he used poor judgement when he opened his mouth.

I posted before that I thought it was a safety issue and I assumed (But didn't post at the time) that the camp may have mislead the club on the number of kids coming.

Per the report:
1) The club added extra lifeguards to ensure the ratio of coverage was adequate - matching the number the camp stated and paid for, and

2) The email from the teacher spoke volumes to me - I can't sit here and think of any excuses when you see how she emailed the group essentially backing up what was 'allegedly' stated that day around the kids.

I have to back the report.

Gil was changing the subject by attacking the Inky and Daily NewsLess - both are terrible papers and I blame both for contributing to the stagnant city government that keeps the city down - but the papers aren't the subject here - it's the camp and the club. The camp was discriminated upon.
