Butt out, folks

The state Senate today gets another chance to clear the air in Pennsylvania.

The compromise smoking ban that was snuffed out last week is due to get another vote.

Delco Senators Dominic Pileggi, R-9, of Chester, and Ted Erickson, R-26, of Newtown, are supporting the measure. Sen. Connie Williams, D-17, of Haverford has opposed.

Critics say the measure is watered down with too many exemptions that would allow many places, including the state’s new casinos, to skirt the regulations and remain clouded in unhealthy smoke. They have a point, but it should not prevent them from taking this first step in getting the state to butt out.

We urge the Senate to pass the measure if they get the chance today.
