Seeking justice for Ollie Cloyd

At first, Darby Borough Police Chief Bob Smythe tried the standard route as he sought witnesses to the killing of Ollie Cloyd.

He asked the public, including those he believe either saw or knew about what happened last Wednesday night when a few kids rode up to the 17-year-old as he walked his dog and opened fire, to come in and talk to police.

The chief and the borough even put up $1,000 in attempts to lure people to come forward.

He was greeted with the sounds of silence.

Now the chief and others are upping the ante. Literally.

At a press conference yesterday at the Media Courthouse, Smythe joined D.A. Mike Green, and a representative from the Citizens Crime Commission in announcing the reward fund now stands at $10,000.

Maybe that will be enough to loosen some lips.

There were two other people at the press conference yesterday. Two people who also put forth a heartfelt plea for witnesses to come forward.

Ollie Cloyd’s mother and sister joined the chorus of those begging anyone with information on his murder to speak to police.

The family is hoping to cut off any further bloodshed. They’re afraid someone may be considering retaliating for Ollie’s death.

There was one other irony involved in yesterday’s press conference.

It would have been Ollie Cloyd’s 18th birthday. The best present his family could get right now is for those who know what happened to their loved one to come forward and talk to police.

Its very sad that a young man had to lose his life. Young people today do not value life at all. Whats even more sad is that people know who dod htis to this young man and no one will come forward. what if this was one of yours you would want justice for your child. I am a Darby resident and god knows if i hear or even think i hear that someone was responsible i will be going to the police. and as for the reward they can keep it there is no reward that can value a human life yet that of a 17 yr old young man with a whole life that was ahead waiting for him. My prayers go out to the family and friends of this young man. god is on your side pray have faith in him he will serve u and bring you justice for those who participated in the slaughter of this young man. PEOPLE WE HAVE TO START SPEAKING UP THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO THINGS RETALIATION IS NOT THE ANSWER DONT LET YOUR CHILD BE THE NEXT TO BE BURIED.... WERE WILL THIS END.

WHEN WILL THIS STOP..... YOUNG PEOPLE DO NOT VALUE LIFE.... THE CHEIF IS RIGHT! SOMEONE OR MANY PERSON SEEN AND KNEW THIS WAS GOING DOWN. PARENTS MAYOR THOMAS IS RIGHT YOU HAVE TO TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN IF THEY KNOW ANYTHING PLEASE COME FORWARD YOUR NOT SETTTING A STRONG EXAMPLE FOR THEM BY LYING AND KEEPING QUIET. THIS YOUNG MAN AND HIS FAMILY WERE VICTIMS OF A TRAGGIC HORRIFYING CRIME DONT LET YOUR CHILD OR FAMILY MEMEBR BE NEXT. DO THE RIGHT THING STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS AS AN AMERICAN STOP THIS NONSENSE ITS FOOLISH. I KNOW FROM LIVING IN THE BOROUGH SINCE I WAS A YOUNG CHILD THAT DARBY IS NOT ALL THAT GREAT, BUT THEN AGAIN WHERE CAN YOU LIVE NOW A DAYS THAT IS PERFECT? NOWHERE! ITS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. THE ONLY ONES WHO SUFFER IN THIS SITUATION ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE BOROUGH SOMEWHER OUT THERE IS A CHILD WHO SEEN WHAT HAPPEND AND IS HOLDING THIS INSIDE OF THEM FIGHTING THE TEMTATION EVERY MOMMENT TO CONFESS ALL I CAN SAY IS PLEASE IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING GO TO YOUR PARENTS, THE POLICE SOMEONE AND BRING THIS YOUNG MANS LIFE BACK WITH JUSTICE. THINK IF THIS WAS YOUR SON,BROTHER,COUSIN , FRIEND, NEIGHBOR.... WHAT WOULD YOU WANT???????? DO THE RIGHT THING AS FOR THE REWARD WE ARE ALL IN NEED OF CASH BUT THIS WAS A LIFE. LIFE IS WORTH MORE THAN ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT MAY BE OFFERED. VALUE LIFE ITS THE ONLY ONE YOU WILL HAVE. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF MR OLLIE CLOYD MAY YOUR LORD BE WITH YOU AND ALWAYS WITH YOU IN YOUR TIME OF NEED. AND TO THE OFFICERS OF THE BORO, I KNOW YOU GUYS AND GALS TAKE IT HARD SOMETIMES YOU DONT HAVE THE BEST REPUTATION, BUT PLEASE KNOW FROM THIS RESIDENT THE ACTIONS YOU ARE TAKING TO BRING THIS YOUNG MANS KILLER(S) TO JUSTICE IS GREATLY APPREICIATED. YOU PUT YOUR LIVES ON THE LINE EVERYDAY FOR THESE RESIDENTS AND ITS TIME THEY RESPECT AND APPRIECIATE IT MORE.
