Home Field Magic Number: 1

There was a lot of noise coming out of the Phillies coaches' office tonight, good noise, after a 7-2 defeat.

Huh?

The Milwaukee Brewers rallied back from a 6-0 deficit in the final four innings to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 12-6.

So why do a bunch of Phillies coaches care?

Because now the Phillies magic number to clinch home field in the first round is ONE.

If the Phils win one of the next two games, or if the Cardinals lose one of the next two games, the Phillies will begin the NLDS at Citizens Bank Park. The Phils were 7-0 at home during the 2008 playoffs.

Barring a sweep by the Rockies over the Dodgers this weekend, the Phils will play host to Colorado.
