Rise and Shine --- Crunch time

Good Morning and welcome to the right time to start your holiday shopping!

Doesn't it seem the holiday season comes quicker and quicker every year. Maybe it's just here, but, for some reason, there hasn't been nearly enough time to get everything done this year.
It's time to pull a couple of the college all-nighters. Well, maybe not the same, but how about holiday all-nighters.
Fill up with 'Christmas Cheer,' get out the rolls of funny looking paper, tape, scissors and get to work.
By the way, why do we spend money on wrapping paper? People really don't look at the stuff. Never mind, it looks nice under the tree for about an hour.
Now, I'm sure most out there already have the gifts wrapped, the tree decorated, the house cleaned, the laundry folded (and put away), dinners planned and your children have been going to bed early every night in preparation of Christmas morning.
For the rest of us in the real world, none of that is done (in fact, through a flu-riddled brain, I'm looking at two boxes of Christmas decorations right now).
Somehow, though, we'll pull it all together. It always happens, even if we would like a few more days if only so we could procrastinate a little longer.

Rise and Shine ---- Time not on my side

Good Morning and welcome to October!

OK, I know, it's not really October, but it sure feels that way out there today.
By the way, have you ever noticed how time seems to speed up when you need it to slow down.
Case in point, while the two little ones (Malena's getting ready for another year of Pre-K and Brendan's staring second grade) had a couple of more days off before school starts today, we had one more afternoon of 'summer.'
We played. We talked. We cleaned. We yelled. We ate. You know, a typical day with a 4- and 7-year old. Those hours seemed to last forever. The clock wasn't moving as we waited to pick up big brother (Liam, 10, started fifth grade on Tuesday). By 3 p.m., it seemed like we had spent weeks since the morning drop off.
So, we slowly walked down to school, waited for the exit and slowly walked back. We got home about 3:30 p.m.
Suddenly, the clock went into hyperspeed. It was time to get ready for the first day of ballet class (it apparently is next week, but at least the dancer got to dress up). Mom was on the way home. The phone was ringing. The boys were fighting. There was 'stuff' all over the place.
In the whirlwind of dance, eating, walking dogs, filling out forms, making lunches, giving baths, checking last-minute e-mail, joking around, reading --- AHHH! --- it's 9 o'clock.
So, somehow, five hours lasted five minutes. Nothing got done without a rush.
What just happened? How do you slow it down? Where is Mick Jagger?

Rise and Shine

Good Morning faithful readers!

Well, despite what the calender says and even though the temperature keeps pushing near triple digits, it is apparently fall already.
The Eagles are playing football, which many believe is the biggest story of the year. More disturbing, though, is the stores are stocking school supplies.
Didn't school just end? Wasn't it only a month ago we were ditching old papers and putting the books away?
Apparently, that's been long enough. There are sales all over the place. We are being drummed in the head if we don't purchase those No. 2 pencils today, there won't be any left come September. Get those folders or your school children will be stuck with 'High School Musical 2.'
Hurry up. Come quickly. Get it done.
It seems we are always looking to the next thing instead of just enjoying today. We wake up on Monday and wish it was Wednesday. When Wednesday comes, we wish it was Friday. Sunday starts the cycle all over again.
'Just get me through today so I can get to tomorrow.'
When tomorrow comes, we rush through it. Time speeds past us before we even know what to do with it.
Here's an idea. For today, just take it minute-by-minute. It's a perfect summer day outside.
Stop and smell the roses.

Rise and Shine

Good Morning everybody!

So, ever notice how quick a vacation week fades away.
Spent the last week in Ocean City, N.J., which, by the way, can still be a sleepy town, but is only a stone's throw from becoming overrun like Wildwood.
Anyway, after arriving Saturday, the week ahead looked long and relaxing.
There was no need to head out to the boardwalk or the beach that first day, because, hey, we have a long week ahead.
Same the next day. Take it easy, go on a family walk, watch the boats on the bay.
By Tuesday, the week was still a long way away. 'I know, we'll play miniture golf, but just be patient. There's a long week ahead.'
By Thursday, the week is on the downslide and suddenly you feel like everything has to be packed into the day. Get up early, go for a walk, head to the beach, head to the playground, walk on the boardwalk, play games, play miniture golf, watch movies. There's not enough time in the day!
Friday, the finality of it all steps in. We have to get back to the real world, but let's pack in even more. Spend more time on the beach. Let the children play on the sand and in the surf.
What, leave already? Just 10 more minutes.
Finally, the sun is setting and it would be a good idea to do some pre-packing.
No, let's do more. Get some ice cream. Walk on the beach. See the lights. Watch the boats.
No. No. No. It can't be over. We are having too much fun. We are enjoying everything. We are having fun. Don't let the real world intrude.
HELP!
