Snow cat visits Pottstown
Abigail and the Snow Cat
During a snow day on Friday, Feb. 22, Abigail Welder, who is 7 years old and loves her cat "Carrot" (who is 11 months old) and her mother, Tori Welder, of Queen Street in Pottstown, began this fantastic sculpture of Carrot. They used food coloring for the color tones and branches for nails, whiskers, etc.
The sculpture was huge and beautiful.
I am an art teacher and I know the work and joy that went into the project. I and other passers-by just thought it would be so nice to see great things happen in the neighborhood from time to time in the paper. However, when I was able to call The Mercury the next morning, the work of art was destroyed and kicked down by two teens.
I was stunned and appalled by the disrespectful act! So now, more than ever, I hope that the good could be recognized by featuring the "Snow Cat" in The Mercury. Perhaps then, maybe, it would help others to value and respect the creative work and satisfying innocent fun, during a child's snow day!
