Not sorry

Hey, Ed, I feel no need to apologize for slavery in New Jersey or the U.S. My great-grandparents left Eastern Europe in the 1890s for a better life in America, along with millions of other 19th century European immigrants and those who came later. They had no hand in enslaving Africans. The slaves were freed decades before my ancestors stepped ashore on Ellis Island.
Knott M.I. Fault
It’s true. It’s not your “fault,” but it was terrible and should never be forgotten. No one deserves suffering. Anyway, apologies would be in order if they somehow could take away any of the suffering of anyone who’s ever been persecuted. But they can’t.—Ed. Note

Reparations have already been paid in the form of welfare, food stamps, special services, Etc. I actually believe blacks owe America reparations for ruining our cities. Fix our cities and pay back all of the free monies and then we'll talk reparations.

Reparation is (payment by apology, monetary means or otherwise) to someone for all they've lost in terms of sacrificing their lives, time and talents in the service of others. I would say slavery encompasses all of this. Blacks, don't need to fix your cities, blacks built your cities. So you see their sense of loss doubles. I agree, blacks aren't the only ones that deserve this level of respect and acknowledgement, there are many races of people that fell into similiar situations. Such as,the Mexicans who chose to come here and work for little or no money. Remember, Black were BROUGHT here and worked for FREE. The Irish fleeing Ireland, due to the potato famine, came here. The Italians immigrating from Southern Italy, came here, as well as the Jews fleeing Nazi Germany. During the industrial age, blacks encompassed almost 90% of all below poverty workers. Every industry in this country relied heavily on black labor forces to build their companies. Blacks were only paid what was given by whoever decided what their days work was worth. However, lets not skirt the issue and put it where it belongs. What about the Indians. They have never received anything, remember, this is THEIR country. Least we forget, speaking of assistance, you may want to update your uninformed facts. In the State of New Jersey, the welfare system is comprised of 41% Hispanic, 25% Blacks, 30% White and 4% others. You should really think twice before expressing such an uneducated, self indulgent, ignorant frame of mind.
