Bored of education

Ed, it’s the end of year in Hamilton and kids are coming home from middle school having watched movies in all their classes, with no education going on whatsoever. My kid comes home and bored to tears. I don’t understand why the last seven to 10 days of school are just a playground. It’s pretty bad when kids moan about watching a movie instead of reading a book. Wake up, Hamilton.

Cut the teachers some slack. If they teach right up to the end of the year it will be too much of a shock to their system when summer arrives and they don’t have to do anything. They need to ease into summer.—Ed. Note

If you want your kids to work every single day of the school year send them to military school. Maybe it hasn't become apparent to you that maybe working your kids to death isn't the best thing for their education. Give the kids and teachers a break. Plus it also appears that you stay ignorant to the fact that movies can in fact teach many points to a viewer.

I'm a teacher. Books have to be collected in the beginning of June. School policy requires grades be turned in before the last day of school. Students know that anything taught after a certain date will not be counted. There is no way you are going to get a 12 or 13 year old to do something in the classroom in June. Besides, Hamilton does not have air-conditioning. We had a heat wave the last couple of weeks and classrooms were about 95 degrees inside. Maybe you should just keep your kid home when there are half days.
