Busy day
Greetings from South Hadley, Mass., where my day is about to begin with a drive from my mom's house to the MassMutual Center in Springfield for the MAAC's tournament press conference.
I'll have a post shortly after the presser with quotes from Rich Ensor.
Then it's off to Albany, where Rider and Siena will both be trying to make a statement tonight at the Times Union Center.

While the "fans" (Siena) may not like it, Springfield is a good choice.
Reading the press release, there are too many favorable factors to pass this opportunity up.
First, "MassMutual Center and the Local Organizing Committee have guaranteed the league its best ever financial result." It always comes down to money, folks.
Second, "the valuable asset of the Basketball Hall of Fame, which is offering the MAAC use of its facilities for the championships and a permanent exhibit on MAAC basketball for the duration of the hosting agreement." How can you pass up an association with the HOF?
Lastly, "Springfield has hosted the event (Div II) 20 times previously, including the last four years which have featured historically successful attendance numbers and an enhanced schedule of Championship Week events." The Pioneer Valley may actually have enough of a base for support. MAAC fans should not discount that so quickly.
And if it fails, its only a three-year experiment...
Wait until the 2012 Tournament draws 10,000 people in total, the Mass Mutual Center takes a bath and they pay the MAAC the $100k buyout to find a new place to host 2013 and 2014.
