Anthony Myles Rider-bound

Rider scored a major recruiting victory when Anthony Myles, a highly touted shooting guard from Dover, Del. gave coach Tommy Dempsey a verbal commitment.

Myles, a standout at Polytech High School, is rated the No. 171 senior in the country by Hoop Scoop -- the highest ranking ever for a Rider recruit. The other member of Rider's Class of 2010, Philadelphia forward Danny Stewart, is rated No. 381 on the same list.

Myles had scholarship offers from Temple and South Florida, among others. When he didn't make a commitment early, several mid-major schools jumped in, including Rider and Niagara. Boston College showed late interest but hadn't offered a scholarship.

After watching Rider's 86-70 win over Canisius on Sunday, Myles called Dempsey Monday night to commit.

For now, this solidifies Rider's 2010-11 roster, though a scholarship would open up if someone on the Broncs' current roster opted to leave the program.

Must be something wrong with this kid to commit to Rider. He's either not as good as the rating or his stock is plummeting.

I know. Why didn't he commit to a major program like Siena? Considering Siena routinely sends players to the NBA, that's where any decent recruit would go. In fact, why hasn't Siena been invited to the Big East yet? It's a travesty they still play in the MAAC!! If the Big Eastconference had any brains they'd demote Syracuse and have Siena takes it's place as the true upstate NY power!

For all the crap I give Tommy Boy, I've always said he's a very good recruiter.

Great job, but as of now next year team is all 2's and 3's. (Mitchell, Myles, Mansell, Gadson, Penn, Youngblood, JT).

tmd, i have also always given the devil (tommy boy) his due as a recruiter. He gets players that are being recruited by way more high profile programs then rider, but he is an awful gameday coach. He should be recruiting coordinator, and not head coach

Doody, instead of saying "if anyone opts to leave the program" you should say "when Jermaine Jackson forfeits his scholarship that he has stolen for two years."

Wasn't Jermaine Jackson the highest ranking recruit ever for Rider.

Marko, he was pretty high. That is why he is so disappointing.

Great to land a guy ranked in the Top 200 by HoopScoop. However, there are other things that are more telling when looking at a recruit - who were the other actual offers the kid had? having "interest" does not constitute an offer. Chances are, this kid's best option, as of this past Sunday, was Rider.

If you have a kid rated #150 with no offers or a kid rated #300 with offers from the A-10, low-level Big East and CAA......which kid would you take?

The comment by the last anon poster is dead on. There is a reason he's going to Rider. Doody is wrong -- this is not a major recruiting steal.

I guess we;ll just have to wait and see how it plays out next season. But I love the "If he's going to Rider, there has to be something wrong with him" crap. If this kid commited to Siena, he would be the greatest; another great get by Fran.
