Aaron Mathews disposed of a fastball from Zach Kroneke for a two-run homer over the left-field wall to give the Cats a 4-3 lead. Kroneke then dropped a throw from Reegie Corona for an error on what should have been a 4-1 putout at fist base. Tony Franklin had enough after that and pulled him in favor of Michael Gardner.
