Heartbreaker in E-town

I just got back from the E-town boys soccer team's District Three first round playoff game against Wilson tonight at E-town's Thompson Stadium. The Bears played their second straight overtime game, falling to the Bulldogs 1-0 tonight, ending their season.

It was a good game all in all and I think the two teams were very evenly matched. E-town was a 7 seed in the tournament and Wilson was a 10 seed, and it played that way. The Bears had a few near goals late in the game – one on a beautiful side volley by Peter Davis with seconds left in the second half and another on a perfectly struck shot from about 35 yards out that hit the crossbar. Some bad luck for the Bears. I will say that E-town keeper Quinn Cozzens played outstanding tonight.

Although their season ended a little earlier than they would have liked, the Bears have absolutely no reason to hang their heads. With all of the injuries and adversity they faced, they still were able to grad a share of the Section Two crown, and to make it to the league semifinals (where it took Manheim Township, one of the best AAA teams in the state, extra time to beat them), and played a good Wilson team tough.

Great season by E-town. But a tough one to swallow tonight.
