Horning qualifies for states

It's been a great season for EAHS senior cross country runner Dustin Horning, and now it will continue at the biggest stage in the state.

Horning finished 10th overall at last Wednesday's District Three Class AAA meet, qualifying him to compete in Saturday's PIAA State Meet. (Note: I apologize to Dustin and the rest of the EAHS boys and girls cross country runners for not covering the district meet. The schedule I have had the meet slated for Saturday, Oct. 25, so you can imagine my surprise when I got the results on Thursday morning, the 23rd. Sorry, back to the post now.) Horning finished in a time of 16:47, and gained familiarity with the course in Hershey, which is where the state meet will take place this Saturday.

Horning has had one of the best individual seasons in E-town cross country history. He won every single meet of the year except for the regular season finale, where he finished second by just one second. You can't do much better than that. In leagues, where he was expected to compete for the L-L title, he came down with some pretty bad cramps and was forced out of the race, which was unfortunate for him. But he made up for that in districts and will now look to earn a medal in states.

The Boys AAA race kicks off at noon at Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.
