Scott not seeking 2nd term -- Updated
At-large City Councilwoman Robin Scott has just announced in a written statement to the Local that she will not be seeking a second term, in part because, "I have been frustrated by the lack of meaningful progress within our city."
The council terms for Scott, Patsy Ray, Kareem Johnson and Kurt Schenk all end this year. Ray, Johnson and Schenk have yet to say publicly if they will seek reelection this year.

Well I'm not surprised by what she's doing. I mean it's interesting that she voted with the bloc of 4 and nothing got accomplished and yet she's not running for re-election because she feels they (Council but really the bloc of 4) didn't make enough progress. Well regardless 1 down 3 to go in regards to the bloc of 4 running for re-election. I just read that someone is running vs. Schenk in Ward 4. Now if we can get someone to run against Patsy Ray then we'll be good. As for Kareem Johnson I think he's playing both sides now. I mean he votes in the bloc of 4 but now is over at Joe Carroll's house as well. So what side are you on Kareem? Sounds like he can read the writing on the wall.
Regardless sounds like after the election we are going to have to start over again. Matthews should be gone by that point (and replaced with Canale) but Walker will need to be removed. Whoever they bring in will need to get up to speed fast. But I think we all agree that we should be smart about the process and bring someone in that has the proven experience. All I hope is whoever is elected (old, young, tall, short, black, white, green, pink, Martian for that matter) can work together as a team and start moving forward not backward. I think we all need a change here because right now we are living the definition of insanity in Coatesville City (doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result).
I had never been to City Council Meeting until last week. After what I saw, I know I will be back again and again. If we the public don't go to these meetings then we deserve what we get (just like people who complain about gov't but never vote). Some of the people who got to speak made some really good points.
It took 2 hours of my evening for the meeting which isn't a lot so get out there and show up or go to Joe Carroll's house and speak your peace. Just take some type of action.
Just my 2 cents
Ms. Scott never really did much, she once made the comment at a council meeting that she was ashamed to come out of her house and go thru town to see what it has become. That's a good way to get things done, just stay at home.
We need a city manager with a business sense to run things, one who knows profit and loss.
Right now the city is losing at least 5 grand a month on properties it owns that are sitting vacant and don't need much work to rent them out. That's just the ones I pass everyday (not the whole town.)
"If she felt that everything was mismanaged then why vote them in or why not vote them out. It just goes to show that the four can't think individually they can only vote as a bloc. Thanks for nothing . "
I also heard that there was someone running against Schenk in the 4th Ward who is an Attorney. Plus, there is a Realestate Broker who is running at large. It was noted that both candidates didn't have any ties to the current council members. This is great as hopefully they should bring a new hope to Coatesville and not be mired with the same conflicts as the current council members. As our country's new leader has noted, "Do we want 4 more years of the same?"
RealEstate Broker? sounds like someone from the previous council might be running again!
Attorney? not sure who that could be.
No, the two people mentioned (the real estate broker and attorney) are not from any previous counciland have no association with this council. They are recent residents to coatesville.
I understand peoples suspicion over candidates but I caution you to give these two a chance and listen to what they have to say. I think you might be surprised by what you hear and how unconnected they are to the normal BS that everyone expects.
I also think you would be surprised to know that there are a decent amount of young professionals who moved to coatesville in 2003-2005 when the City was improving.
You can't complain that you want better leaders and change and then jump all over people who are new to the process. Wait for the names and backgrounds and then judge.
So why not just say their names? It'll be a little free (advance) publicity. They have to be filing papers soon anywhay. Why not just come out and say who they are??
Like the rest of the Bloc of 4, Ms. Scott contributed nothing for the betterment of Coatesville. Now she can sit back and enjoy the rewards of living in a city in distress knowing she helped to get it to that point. She was useless, just like the others!
Actually the Real Estate Agent and Attorney are both newer to the city they are my neighbors and are very concerned with the way things are. I believe the new ideas will help especially for someone like me who was not born and raised in Coatesville, but chose to raise my family here. Only problem is they are both registered Republicans, so in order to vote for them in the primary democrats will need to change their party.
Let's bring Ernest Campos back!!
To lets rock and roll, what makes you think Ernie Compost ever went anywhere. Extremest political trouble makers like him and Jim Pitcharella at the opposite end of the spectrum are a major part of whats wrong in this city. the other part is that good people get sucked into their manipulative hands. They keep division alive and well, which keeps the good citizenry from working together for the greater good. dont take my word for, just watch them. you will never hear a positive word or deed come from either one of them, and if you do look below the surface because something probably is not kosher.
I think she made the right choice. If you have ever heard her speak at a council meeting she is a bumbling, blithering bag of nerves, she ought resign now. I feel bad for her sometimes, she just doesn't ever seem to know what's going on. Just clueless.
