DA Update

The regularly scheduled Thursday open house meeting at the Coatesville Savings Bank with District Attorney Joe Carroll will be suspended until May 7th due to conflicts with other meetings. Private meetings are still available on Tuesdays at Carroll's home at 16 North 8th Avenue by appointment. Carroll said he will notify the public if this schedule changes for any reason.

what reason do you have to meet da.

you successfully threw a hissy fit

until you got your way and matthews

is out.you've got someone you want

in for chief. it doesn't matter

that he couldn't get qualified in

21 yrs...as long as you want him.

congrads...on running it

I applaud not only the DA, but groups that have come to Coatesville to hwlp our city. At least they are proactive in avoiding trouble and crime.

If people aren't willing to help out with a problem, they need to shut up and stay out of the way for others to do what they can.

Threw a hissy fit? Really - no Matthews was hired to do a job and fulfill a contract he never did. I agree with you on Canale. Council should of followed the same hiring procedure used to hire Matthews. Really doesn't matter anyway because I would have liked to see what the real choice (Lt. Fitzgerald from Philly) would have done. He wasn't good enough for us but was good for a city 7 times are size. Go figure.

it's the da's job to work with legislative bodies at local and state levels, not fight them because he didn't get his way...s
yes a hissy fit...

when the da states in his press release when bellizzie resigned that it's frustrating and difficult for the chief to do his job when he didn't know if he had the confidence of...(read it on the da's site under press releases) , and puts the new chief in the same position. he also speculated that chief bellizzie leaving would have a very bad moral impact on the police dept and that he wouldn't be surprised if more officers were influenced to
leave the dept. (then blammed the new chief for the police leaving...where the da admitted that it the councils sole responsibility to chose the new chief, but forsaw problems with the new chiefs credibility if council didn't use the methods he chose...( then he lauds the credibility problem)

finally (there were lots of other hissy fit moments) the da and 200 police from eastern pa show up unannounced at a council meeting where the da demands that lt gordon be reinstated because he needs him for his investigation.(but acknowledges that the prior chief selection should have control of his dept)

i'm not debating if the chief that resigned should have been given a chance. i'm stating the da overstepped his bounds. imo and should have been doing a better job of retaining criminals in jail, a better job of investigating criminals charged to enable a guilty verdict) should have gone to the lt he wanted so badly, and asked him to comply with demands, and settle the vacation issus, not be insubordinate, what ever...do the job the da was elected to do.

Do you know how many people in this town are so happy we finally have Canale go out and ask around. He is known by alot of people and I'm not just talking about the upper class I am talking about his 21 years in this area has given him alot of respect from the people here. At least the police officers have someone they can look up to also. I don't think you'll be seeing 12 or 13 officers leaving either mark my words. Good Luck Chief!!!!

I just wonder if the entire community can trust Canale to be straight with all people. That would be my only worry. Is he going to serve all of the people?

I'd wonder if Canale can serve all of the people too. It remains to be seen, he does have a history and it is well known.

Has Canale not been fair to minorities in the past?
