Ah, blogging. Here's my little corner of it all -- in West Chester, and well, from wherever on whatever. I'll let you know what I'm thinking and you can let me know what you're thinking. But remember, I can delete your posts.

The Unoffical End?

Ahh, the unofficial end to summer is finally here. I am by no means a summer person. I like the idea of the beach (mainly flipflops) but don't really enjoy going. I went once this summer and, well, burned -- badly.

I am a mountain person. More to the point, a snowboarder. I've lived in Vermont and fallen down some large slopes out west. It's getting to be time to screw the bindings back on my boards and wash the sweaters. After sweltering through this summer, I'm looking forward to some trips to the Pocono's and then some north and out West again, maybe.

Anyone else with me? Who likes to scrape down the icy slopes of PA? What are your favorite spots?

Right there with you man. The Warren Miller movies have almost been re-memorized from last summer and I can't wait for the winter. The shining star of most accurate predictions, the farmer’s almanac, says we should get some decent white stuff this year.

Around here my preference is Blue Mountain. I've spent some time out west and man; those mountains are some of the best places I’ve experienced. The towns, slopes and people are so much fun.

Often times, here in the east, not only do the slopes resemble more of a skating rink with a slight grade, but it often feels like I’ve been transported through some psychedelic time-warp to the 70’s. It is surprising though - the lack of modernization at some of the places here. Then again, it’s not like we’re mining the white gold like they do out west. But at least we are fortunate enough to have something.

I found this website over the weekend that sorts public resorts by highest vertical. It was interesting but also showed that we could definitely be way-worse off. For example, I don’t know if it would be worse to live somewhere without any resorts or somewhere with a resort with 250 feet of vertical. To me, that would be like a cruel winter tease.

Ahh, the Warren Miller movies have been brought up. Those things are irritating to watch in the summer. If anyone has Direct TV, fuse has the Heikki Sorsa Project.

I'm a Blue Mountain person out of convenience. If I can find the time I'll do the drive to Sugarbush in VT.
