Who should be named All-Delco?

This is one of the best times of the year: the playoffs have just begun, and soon enough it'll be time to name the All-Delco Team. This is where you, the reader, enter into the equation.

I have a general idea of who will make this year's All-Delco Team, but I'd like your thoughts on the matter. As the Daily Times continues ushering in the digital age of journalism, I've opted to use my blog as a medium for such a task. Either leave a comment on the blog or e-mail me who you think should make the team and why. My only request is that your responses be clear, concise and clean (no trash-talking on other players or foul language, please). I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Now back to the playoffs.

The results are in: two Delaware County schools are in the Catholic League playoffs. Well, sort of. Monsignor Bonner picked up the Southern Division's third seed by posting a 9-5 league record. The Friars will play No. 2 Neumann-Goretti on Saturday.

Archbishop Carroll and Saint Joseph's Prep will partake in a play-in game Wednesday for the fourth and final Southern Division seed. Both teams finished at 8-6 in league play. The Catholic League playoffs begin next weekend. The Patriots and the Hawks will play at Cardinal O'Hara Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the right to advance.

do 5 or 6 kids make all delco?

I say:

Egee - Ridley
Robinson, Burton, Johnson, Green Germany - Chester
Murray - Glen Mills

I could see Robinson from Ridley instead of Egee because he scores more but Egee makes that team go. He is their leader and MVP.

Karon Burton is Delco Player of the Year. He has been the best player on the best team all year.

I say Robinson from Ridley. He's been the man all year for Ridley. He has scored the most points and has had the most rebounds for Ridley. He has improved dramatically this year and it shows.

Jake Mingey from Haverford High should definately be on there. He may not score as much as some of these other guys, but that is because Haverford shares the ball better then any team around and Jake is very unselfish. He is a great all around player and he clearly outshined Robinson in both games the Fords had against Ridley (Even though Robinson may have scored more then Mingey in the second game, people who were at the game saw that Mingey was the better player).

Karon Burton for Player of the Year

Anonymous Mingey, I see you followed the writer's request real well (no trash talking).

Anyhow, I think Burton & Green-Germany for Chester; and Robinson & Egee for Ridley.

Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone. To clarify, six players make All-Delco: five position players and an All-Delco Player of the Year.

As I said, I appreciate the feedback. So keep it coming.

If 6 make it, I like the list the first guy put together. I feel like Egee, Murray, Nas Robinson, Burton, and G-G are locks. As for that sixth spot it is a toss up between Dan Robinson and Russell Johnson. I feel Russell is the better of the two but Dan has better numbers because he is a go-to guy for his team. Either way it works.

I don't mean to trash talk because I think Mingey is a nice player but it is foolish to think that he is better than the players listed.

a vote for mingey.his team would not have made the playoffs without him.he scored half the points in a 1 point loss to a strong cheltenham team. egee is an impressive leader, should ridley get 2? should chester get 2?
karon burton is MVP...

I say;

Dan Robinson carried that team in the beginning of the year when they didn't have a full squad and continued all season.

I KNOW someone from Chester better be player of the year...or im boycotting the paper and dropping the blog from my bookmarks...lol

"Should Chester get 2?" Is that serious?? Why should Chester not get 2? They are a top 10 team in America and you could make an All-Delco team and pit them against Chester and I would take Chester by 10.

If we're talking top 6 players in Delco it would be the Chester starting 5 and Aaric Murray. However, since you can't do that and it's gotta be off of production than You should have 3 Chester kids - Robinson, Karon Burton, Green-Germany, Murray, and probably Egee and Robinson from Ridley.

EXACTLY...of course the chester 5 is the all-delco team...why bother voting...but,what about those kids that didn't have 4 all-delco kids on their team to get them the ball, get the O rebound, break the press, etc. but they still led their teams to winning records...Egee, Murray, Mingey...and is it only about points?

another vote for mingey...when i saw him in person he had off game scoring wise (6 points) but thats not to say he didnt do everything in his power to help the Fords win. He had 9 assists and 11 rebounds along with a couple of blocks. Mingey did whatever he could night in and night out and should be a part of the all-delco team.

Mr. Mingey, stop coming on here and posting non-stop. We get it! Unless you have all of Haverford on notice that this forum is available that has to be you. Not too many people in the county who know anything about basketball would place him in their top 6.

Egee& Robinson=Ridley
Burton& Germany-Chester
Thompson-Bonner

I know there is strong opinion for Murray from GM and Robinson-but not based upon THIS year. Most people in Chester will tell you Robinson has had a down year(if thats possible on a nationally ranked team)-but he clearly had a better year last year.

And both Robinson from ridley and Thompson from Bonner had better years than Murray. His size and potential do not guarantee him a spot. Also, from a philosophical point of view, he is not from DELCO. So Id alwasy lean to the born& bred delco boys.

Player of the year-Burton
Steve Egee
Dan Robinson
Kevin Green-Germany
Russell Johnson

I realize that only two teams are represented, and therefore probably won't happen, but these kids have played there respective asses off and deserve the credentials.

Lijah Thompson had a better year than Murray? I would need to look at the stats but 19, 12, and 5 were Murray's #'s. Without him I'd say the 16-10 record Glen Mills had would have been something like 8-18. Watch him and Lijah. Lijah's potential doesn't earn him a spot either. Murray has better basketball skills while Lijah has better athleticism. Murray has a bigger impact on every game he plays.

Also, if you had a game tomorrow would you rather have Nas Robinson, Murray or Dan Robinson/Lijah Thompson? If you say either of the last two ahead of either of those first two either you don't watch any basketball or you're lying.

Dan Robinson and Steve Egee both deserve all Delco for the fact that they have rounded their team themseleves and worked in players around them

Dan Robinson held the team together early and the DUO increased on their production and Ridley progressed through the season and obviousely in the playoffs thus far as well

Burton for player of the year.. only saw him once but the numbers and stats speak for themseleves, and Johnson, Green Germany - from Chester also

For some clarity, folks - I do appreciate the feedback and that (for the most part) your nominations have come in clean and honest fun.

To answer some of the questions asked by you, the readers:
1. Tyreke Evans can be and will be considered for the team. Reason being he's a Chester native who attends a school in Delco and is NOT a postgraduate. He's a legitimate senior. Also, he's a McDonald's All-American and will no doubt be the Associated Press' Pennsylvania Player of the Year. I would be remiss to leave him off the list.

2. The people who address me on here aren't my personal friends, but merely colleagues who I've met this season while on the beat. I have no sway on what they say. I merely endorse their participation in the open feedback.

3. Keep it coming. The All-Delco team will be published the middle of next month. I'll prompt the readers of the blog one more time with a post to solicit feedback. Until then, keep it clean and keep it coming.

I love how no one is talking about Jon DeShields of Delco Christian. He was second in the county in scoring averaging 22 ppg. and led the Knights to the sixth spot in the Super 7 and finished with a 17-9 record while reaching the semi finals in districts. For all those people that haven't seen him play, he's not your typical single A player. He's a 6'4 transfer from Chester High who is great on the face break and can finish with the best of them. He also has an above average mid range jumper too and is getting recruiting interest from major division one programs.

I'm looking at this forum and I see a lot of toss ups between Steve Egee and Dan Robinson of Ridley and some who agree both should get it. If only one can get it, then I say it was Dan Robinson's year. He held the team together in the beginning of the year and finsished off carryiing the team. And let's face it...it took Egee 4 years to reach his 1000point career, where it took Robinson only 3 years to reach it. If both can't get it, then I say Robinson all the way.
