CORNELL 78, OWLS 65

Cornell takes on the Wisconsin-Wofford winner.

For Cornell, Louis Dale had 21 points, Ryanb Wittman: 21 points.

Dunphy is about to fall to 1--11 ...

... in NCAA Tournament games. And Dunph will be 22-2 against former assistants. Fran O'Hanlon, who began his head coaching career at Bonner, was head coach of Lafayette when he beat Dunphy.

Brooks driving dunk and foul shot ...

would have gotten the Owls started in the first half. With less than four minutes left and Cornell holdding a 16-point lead, it's too little, too ... you know the rest.

Fernandez to bench as Owls go small ...

... And Foote, the 7-footer, promptly makes a three-point play to give Cornell a 74-56 lead with 4-minutes-plus remaining.
It's one of thost days.
Dunphy subs Fernandez for Guzman.

Owls shooting 59 percent ...

... and trailing by 18 points. The most they were behind this season i14 points. And they bounced back to defeat Villanova.

Big Red matches Owls starts

The Owls dominated the first five minutes of each half on their way to their third straight A-10 tournament championship.
They've been dominated or matched in those segments today.
After getting beaten inside in the first half, the Owls dared Red to launch from beyond the arc in the second half.
Cornell has made four treys in the second half, three by Wittman.
And, yes, his father Randy shot Indiana to an NCAA Tournament championship in 1981.

Owls getting to the basket in Second Half

It's pretty obvious what Dunphy told the Owls at the intermission:
Take the ball to the goal.
With Fernandez getting three baskets, and Eric two, the Owls scored on seven of their first eight possessions to pull within 51-44 with 14:33 left. All of those points came challenging the big man.
At the same time the Owls withstood the bombing of Cornell. Wittman drilled a pair of treys, Chris Wroblewski another to keep Red in front.
