Forged of Steele? Not Barack

I've said it before and I'll say it again, nobody -- NOBODY -- writes more insightfully, more penetratingly, about race in this country than Shelby Steele, which makes him indispensible right now.

Check this out!

Money Q:

Thus, nothing could be more dangerous to Mr. Obama's political aspirations than the revelation that he, the son of a white woman, sat Sunday after Sunday -- for 20 years -- in an Afrocentric, black nationalist church in which his own mother, not to mention other whites, could never feel comfortable. His pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a challenger who goes far past Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in his anti-American outrage ("God damn America").

How does one "transcend" race in this church? The fact is that Barack Obama has fellow-traveled with a hate-filled, anti-American black nationalism all his adult life, failing to stand and challenge an ideology that would have no place for his own mother. And what portent of presidential judgment is it to have exposed his two daughters for their entire lives to what is, at the very least, a subtext of anti-white vitriol?

What could he have been thinking? Of course he wasn't thinking. He was driven by insecurity, by a need to "be black" despite his biracial background. And so fellow-traveling with a little race hatred seemed a small price to pay for a more secure racial identity.

because the friggin' speech was a ploy to force the media to stop playing the tapes of his "Spiritual Advisor" of 20 years. The speech was phony. I am embarrassed to have watched it.

Get specific barack, don't tell us you "weren't there" for all of those statements over your 20 year relationship with the man "who's had the biggest influence in your adult life"

There is nothing cynical about white guilt. But to wallow in it, does no one any good, as Steele well explains. Neither does black mau mauing.

Steele's conclusions are keenly observed and come from the shared experience of having a white mother and black father.

He suggests that instead of being his own man, a truly transformative post-racial figure, Barack has consciously chosen the identity of a black American man. He almost had to to be accepted by white liberals and blacks and not called an Uncle Tom.

Steele's observations are clearly over Dave's head because they don't correspond to his personally accepted and desired view of the world. So he dismisses them as biases and he calls Steele names.

Welcome to the white liberalism of the new millenium.

Lol... Dave is still clinging to apologizing for this black racist! Jump that sinking ship, Dave! He hates you too.

we’ve heard the implication that my candidacy is somehow an exercise in affirmative action; that it’s based solely on the desire of wide-eyed liberals to purchase racial reconciliation on the cheap
~B. Hussein Obama

This is exactly what his candidacy has been from the start. Now it is over.

Dave, your criticism of Steele is simply bizarre.

He is not selling "white guilt," he is recognizing this is what blacks use to elicit gifts, like affirmative action and self-defeating welfare programs, and even presidential nominations from a predominately white society.

America does owe blacks a special debt for our history of slavery and Jim Crow, but blacks owe America too. More importantly they owe themselves not to use this debt as an excuse for self-destruction, failure and hate.

Ministers like Farrakhan and Wright and race hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton feed that hatred to no good purpose.

Steele has chosen not to truck with such people. Obama has chosen otherwise. A man who wants to be president of the United States will have to better explain not Rev. Wright, but his own decision to sit quietly and listen, to be part of a church that pushes the anti-white and anti-American doctrine of black liberation theology.

Of course, Obama supporters loved his speech. They love everything Obama says and does. Even many liberals have pointed out the cult-like behavior of his swooning followers.

The people Obama has to convince of his suitability to be president - independents, conservative Democrats and moderate Republicans, are more cynical about politicians in general.

They'll see his speech as nothing more than a ploy to get elected. It may be more than that but he's got a long way to go to show where he stands on his church's fundamental doctrine.

Either he rejects it and gives himself a chance with middle of the road white voters or he doesn't. If he does he'll risk being viewed as a traitor to his church and black people in general. He's in a tough spot.

I, like Steele, think this is too steep a hill for him to climb.

Once again, Dave, the stars in your eyes are blocking your view.

Those aren't stars blocking his view; it's his Apologist Liberalism that makes him blind.

The bottom line is that nothing in Obama's record or writings bears any resemblance to Wright's political statements and the criticisms against Barack have no factual basis.

This is blatantly untrue and you know it, Dave. Obama himself wrote of ‘dabbling in black militancy when he was a young man trying to find himself back in college’. And his extreme Left Socialist views are also well known. These both bear very close resemblance to black racist Wright’s rants.

You know this. This makes you a liar, Dave.
If you have to lie in order to convince others to your way of thinking, it is well time to reexamine both your motives and the defective product you are selling.

Dave seems to be the only person in America who sees these criticisms of Obama as having “no factual basis”. Lol… Keep clinging to that, D...

Still clinging to that loser, eh Dave.
His speech was for blind apologist followers like you. And it seems you have bought into it completely.

Affirmative action is a gift. It is NOT about “getting qualified people of color blahblahapologistLiblieapologistLibliecrap”. It is about inserting blacks –any blacks- into even positions that they sometimes are not qualified to hold. Oh, and it discriminates against more qualified whites too. So really it’s like s stolen gift that is regifted.

Obama is begging for change… Lol…

It is estimated that, to date, the black man has asked every single person in the United States for change.

So it is somehow better to insert unqualified blacks??

You really are ashamed of your white skin, huh Dave.
Man, all that "education" you endured really did a brainwashing number on you.
It's ok to be white. Really it is.

After investigating it in college, Obama rejected the black militancy. This was BEFORE he even met his pastor.

Oo, I missed this little gem. So what’s you’re saying is that Obama was indeed interested in black militancy on his own even before racist pastor Wright exposed him to it for 20 years.
Gee, I wonder what criterion Obama used in seeking a new church? It musta felt like he found a familiar home when he entered Black Militant Trinity.
