Jackson Jams the Jinx
Is the Sports Illustrated curse for real?
Apparently not. Eagles 23, Giants 11.
Anybody remember the SI Cover of Julius Erving dunking in the Boston Garden to beat the Celtics in the playoffs 4-3 after almost for the second time blowing a 3 to 1 lead?
The headline: Dr. J Jams the Jinx.
In this case it was Dr. Jackson who jammed the jinx. The Birds are headed to the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals.
Go ahead SI, put Kurt Warner on this week's cover. Make our day.

its a shame we have little to no sports talk on this board. I don't fault you, Gil, rather, our regulars don't seem to feign interest.
C. Scott will post, but he's not always around. Aaron, too, but for similar reasons. 2008 into 2009 has become a magical season for local sports, better than any era I've lived in, yet Spencerblog, sports discussion seems to be more like a dry well - useless.
Funny, I just (seconds ago) used the word "magical" to describe this Philadelphia sports year talking to my colleague Marlene DiGiacomo.
As for sports talk on Spencerblog, we take full responsibility for the dearth of it.
But check this out - In 1980 the Phillies won the World Series and the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.
Spencerblog prediction: Here they go again.
man, oh man, I hope so. You can't take AZ for granted especially after their performance in Carolina Saturday night, but I do feel good. We could have the first ever "Keystone Super Bowl" - think of the cross-commonwealth trash talking!
Did you ever hear the Phillies' references relating to their titles? They're pretty cool:
-Phils won in 80 & 08
-Following the Final Pitch in '80 - #45 jumped into the air
-Following the Final Patch in '08 - #54 fell to his knees
I will never forget that night - in fact, I have to have my ticket and a few key pictures framed, along with my Delco-Times, Metro and Daily News papers.
The 2008 Eagles are resembling the Phillies with a tad bit more luck: Both weren't guarantees for the playoffs a month before the season ended, both played well enough to advance, both have that key player hobbled by injuries but won't admit them (Utley, Westbrook). Both are facing a team in the conference championship that wasnt' supposed to be there, either (Dodgers instead of the Cubs, Cardinals instead fo the Panthers or Giants). And, if it holds true, there's a possiblity that the Championship Opponent shouldn't have been there, either (Rays overthe Red Sox or Angles, Ravens over the Titans, Colts or Steelers) - am I getting ahead of myself?
