Call me a Phanatic: A look at the ups and downs of being a Philadelphia sports fan.
Bob Clarke is taking a different view of the latest incident involving loose cannon Steve Downie, who took a poke at a foe who was being restrained by an official after a scrum. Gotta love Clarkie. Shades of Valerie Kharlamov.

I Don’t Get It: Talk about heart-breaking. It turns out Chuck Cassidy, the Philadelphia policeman who was slain when he walked in on a Dunkin Donuts burglary, had a previous run-in with the suspect. He actually chased John Lewis after a heist at the very same coffee shop a few weeks earlier. Lewis escaped. Unbelievable.

Today’s Upper: Kudos to Chester Upland School District boss Gregory Thornton, who is floating a novel idea to take the Village Charter School and bring it under the district’s wing at the end of the year. That’s thinking outside the box.
