Phillies vs. Rockies: The Schedule

The Phils wrapped up the regular season this afternoon; they'll get the 2009 postseason started Wednesday afternoon.

Major League Baseball has unveiled the schedule for the first three games of the Phillies vs. Rockies series:

WED: 2:37 p.m. EST (Eastern Standard Time) at Citizens Bank Park, Philly.

THURS: 2:37 p.m. EST at Citizens Bank Park, Philly.

SAT: 9:37 p.m. EST at Coors Field, Denver.

Sunday's Game 4 will only be played if necessary (it's a best-of-five series) and the time will be determined at a later date.

The Phils are getting slotted at this time because we live in a New York/Boston world; like it or not, the Red Sox and Yankees always get prime time.

A quick reason why I don't like it: the national media (ESPN, FOX) complained about a Rays-Phils World Series last year because it feared lackluster ratings since both teams were somewhat anonymous nationally. They do it every year if their beloved Yanks or Sawks don't advance to the Series.

But ESPN/FOX dig their own graves: perhaps instead of shoving the Yankees and Red Sox down people's throats all summer (with Sunday night and Saturday afternoon nationally-televised games) they should vary it up a little and let people see what the Tigers are all about, or the Twins or the Rockies.

My guess is you could add up the times those three teams combined have been on national TV and it wouldn't be close to addding up to the number of times the Red Sox OR Yankees have been on FOX/ESPN alone.

Anyway, had to get that gripe off my chest. Done.
