Rise and Shine --- Singing, Dancing

Good Morning and welcome to Groundhog Day!

Like it really matters if Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow. We are still going to have a cold February and March.
While watching part of the Grammy Awards Sunday night (could only make it through the Pink performance), I got to thinking about music (OK, I had a little help).
Whatever time we are living in, we think we have either the best or worst music ever.
Those in the 1960s rebelled against the Beatles and Rolling Stones because they become 'too corporate.' Whatever that means.
During the 1970s, Disco became huge, then crashed and burned.
The 1980s brought, well, depending on you, some good stuff, some iconic stuff and, well, some forgettable stuff.
The 1990s, well, when Britany, the Backstreet Boys and Celine Dion dominate the charts, it's better left alone.
The last decade is just too early to judge. Although, that Grammy show didn't exactly capture the moment.
So, all these years later, at least the 1980s brought some interesting things to our ears.
Now, let me know, what is your favorite music from the 1980s.

Rise and Shine

Good Morning gentle readers!

So, to take a break from anything serious this weekend, we rented the movie 'School of Rock' with Jack Black. It's kind of funny, definitely better than other Jack Black movies. It's also kind of neat to think all the students in the movie played their own music. Something many adult 'groups' can't do any more.
Here's the trailer

Anyway, as part of the DVD extras was a music video for the 'big' song in the movie.
Sitting there with the boys, we suddenly realized they had never seen a music video.
Now, if you grew up in the 80s or 90s, music videos were as much a part of the song as the actual music.
MTV was the biggest thing on the air, but when they actually played the music. Everybody who was anybody had a music video. You couldn't sell the album or single without the video.
They started out simply as the band or singer just jumping around and such, but quickly became mini-movies. It culminated with Michael Jackson's Thriller, which actually was a movie.
I remember when that video was going to debut. We all rushed home from school to check it out. MTV scheduled it to run every few hours and you knew the schedule.
So, since MTV no longer actually shows videos, it was off to an Internet search for some of those classics. Now, they are funny and the boys were bored after about five seconds.
They didn't get the point. Questions came about the meaning of the video, what they were doing in the video, why they weren't playing the music, etc.
I guess the time has passed. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
Here are a couple of good ones:

RISE AND SHINE

GOOD MORNING, DELAWARE COUNTY.
Think Barak Obama will make his way to Springfield tonight? If he does, will he do some shopping at Bliss Avenue?

I must admit, to steal a line from Jack McCaffery, I don't get 'American Idol.'
Maybe my taste in music is different or whatever, but I haven't found one of the 'winners' so far the least bit talented. There are probably more talented singers hitting the bars on the weekends than making it to Fox.
I think I watched about five minutes of one show over the course of its run. There is a funny take on the Shrek 2 DVD, but the show just doesn't cut it. Now, the only taste of 'American Idol' I get is the highlights they show on morning TV.
This morning, I've seen three absolutely horrible covers of Beatles songs that John Lennon must be ready to rise from the grave to take revenge.
The worst thing is the highlights shows the judging panel actually like the versions. They absolutely loved some goofy looking guy's cover of Eleanor Rigby
that nearly made me spit out my coffee.
They also showed a Let it Be cover and one for Eight Days a Week.
I get the gimmicks. They have to keep everybody interested, especially those who are bored by the stupid comments by Paula Abdul.
So, for those who only get their music from TV, listen to this:
