Fightins drop a tough one
After Tuesday night's thriller, the Phillies had just enough left in the tank to chase Johan Santana from the game, but with a bullpen missing its key set up men -- Ryan Madson, Chad Durbin, J.C. Romero, and Clay Condrey -- the Phillies couldn't hold on to a 3-2 lead, and dropped back into second place, a half-game behind the Mets.
After the bullpen threw 10 innings the day before, it was pretty apparent that the Phillies needed an innings-eating start from Kyle Kendrick, but he fell about two innings short of what was necessary. Kendrick only lasted five innings, throwing 101 pitches while working his way in and out of trouble. Although he left with the lead, he did not provide the 7 innings necessary to bypass a tired bullpen and hand the ball over to Brad Lidge.
With the Mets off tonight, Cole Hamels has a chance to pull the Phillies tied for first place with the Mets tonight, as the Phils start a tough four game series in Chicago. The Fightins need to come up with at least a split in the Windy City, and with Hamels, Blanton, Myers, and Moyer going, 2-2 or 3-1 should be possible.
Quick Thoughts: Lefty reliever Scott Eyre has been another amazing August find for Pat Gillick. He threw 2 scoreless innings last night, after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday night...Johan Santana, the Mets prize offseason acquisition is just 1-1 with 2 no decisions against the Phillies. Wasn't Santana brought to New York to shut down the Phillies lefty-heavy lineup? The Mets and Phils have split his four starts, each going 2-2 this season when Santana takes the hill.

You're so retarded, it's downright frightening. How are you allowed out of your house?
The Mets didn't get Santana because the Phillies have a couple of lefty hitters. They got him because he's one of the top three pitchers in the sport. And by the way, he hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of those games. "Just reporting the facts."
Thank you for writing this post. I knew you were completely clueless, but this proves it. How can you ignore the fact that Manuel had Lidge warming up in 8th inning and didn't bring him in to face Delgado, who was 3-for-6 with 2 home runs lifetime against Seanez?
The Phillies didn't lose last night because their bullpen was tired. They lost because their manager is clueless, just like you.
Thank you for subscribing to my Blog!
If Kendrick would have gone longer in the game, Eyre would have pitched the eighth inning and faced Delgado instead of Seanez. Regarding Lidge, Charlie doesn't like using Lidge for more than an inning. Yesterday would have been his first appearance of more than 1 inning if the game was tied going into the ninth or the Phillies were ahead.
Comparing bullpens, the Phils ERA is more than a run better than the Mets bullpen ERA, and the Mets have blown 22 saves opportunities this year. Clearly the Mets have the more clueless Manuel.
Please continue to respond. Your IQ drops 5-10 points every time you say something.
If Charlie doesn't like to use Lidge for more than 3 outs in the 9th, WHY DID HE HAVE HIM WARMED UP AND READY TO GO IN THE TOP OF THE 8TH? If he's ready to go, why doesn't he come in to strike out Delgado?
The Phillies' bullpen is better than the Mets' bullpen. Who said the Mets had the better pen? What does Jerry Manuel have to do with it? Did he construct the Mets' bullpen? Christ, he didn't even begin the season as the manager.
Also, Jerry Manuel has a World Series ring. "Just reporting the facts."

Straight from the dictionary, here's the definition of subscribe:
"To pledge, as by signing an agreement, to give or pay (a sum of money) as a contribution, gift, or investment."
You don't even know the English lanuguage, and you're an editor? Do you really think anybody would pay to listen to your pom-pom waving nonsense?
Hello again.
Rudy Seanez:
vs lefties: 220 BAA (Batting average Against)
vs righties: .286 BAA
Brad Lidge:
vs lefties: .265 BAA
vs righties: .094 BAA
As you can see by the numbers, Brad Lidge was not warmed up to face Delgado, who is a lefty.
And regarding the managers, Charlie obviously does a better job of handling his bullpen, because going into the season, nobody outside of Philadelphia believed that the Phillies had better relievers than the Mets.

So again, thank you for subscribing to my blog.
I'm glad we able to debate sports in this forum.
Wrong again on both counts.
Lidge wasn't warming up to face Delgado because he's lefthanded? Well, following Delgado in the lineup were Beltran (switch), Church (left), Murphy (left) and Schneider (left). So who was Lidge warming up to face?
Again, going into the season, Jerry Manuel was NOT manager of the Mets. Therefore, you have no point (what a surprise!).
Everyone in New York knew the Phillies had a better bullpen, so you're wrong there, too.
And, finally, I do not subscribe to an RSS feed. So you're wrong there, too.
Anything else?
To finish this up because I have other work to do...
Lidge is a better pitcher against righties, that doesn't mean he CAN'T face lefties or they avoid lefties, but they'd prefer not the best lefty on the team, especially one that kills low pitches, which are where Lidge likes to locate his slider.
Managers don't construct bullpens, they manage them, so it doesn't matter when Jerry Manuel made took over for Willie Randolph, he hasn't done a better job than Willie did, and Willie was awful.

Go Fightins!
PS: I encourage all participants to use their actual names if they feel they have something relevant to say. That way, if they turn out to be correct, they can be given the credit they deserve. But that also means eating crow when they are wrong.
Forget it, you obviously don't have the mental capacity for this conversation.
Although you're right, Manuel hasn't done a better job than Randolph. That's why the Mets are in first place.
I know you have work to do. You're probably one of two or three employees there and have to do the work of 12 people.
I sure know how to manage a pen!
Sorry to let you down, Matty.
