Clearing The Sidewalks
When I came into work today, at around 11 a.m., I was worried about how the sidewalks would be because of yesterday's snow. As I was walking up Bank Street (from the municipal parking lot), there were some icy patches but I thought, "Well, it's downhill, maybe that has something to do with it."
Unfortunately, to the left side of the front of our building (left if you're coming out of the building), it's still super icy.
Plus, when I was walking downtown around noon, there were still areas that had not been touched and were covered in snow. Now, I know I wasn't wearing the most practical shoes, but it was still a gamble to get down to Ocean Earth Wind Fire.
When I came out to walk back to the office around 1 p.m., I did see a municipal worker salting parts of the sidewalk. So I guess things are turning around (especially on the sunny side of the street).
But I only experienced Bridge Street. What about the other sidewalks in and around town? Did any of you have trouble navigating the sidewalks, or do you think they were all cleared well? Does the borough do a good job of keeping up on this all winter (this being my first winter here, I don't know what to expect)? Let me know - maybe I'll be buying winter boots with crazy tread if this keeps up.

But Chief Mossman said that is where te Handicapped parking spots are. Imagine trying to get down there on a dry day with a cane or walker???
Do you think that the Borough is responsible for clearing all the public sidewalks of snow?
Or could that be the responsibility of the property owner
Regardless of who's responsiblity it is, it hasn't been done.
The Borough could save us all a tax increase by sending out Code Enforcement to cite all those who haven't cleared their walks.
Here in the Middle Ward, it appears that absentee landlords are the biggest violators -- a few fines might help fatten the Borough purse and convince these folks to get someone to clear their walk for the rest of the winter.
Complaining about less than an inch of snow on the ground? You could have done your part and swept the snow away with a broom if you felt some old person was in danger of falling. You are young and can't handle walking on an inch of snow! LOL
Does the government have to do everything for your generation?
I agree that sidewalks should be cleared. I've lived in the borough for 10 years. Same thing happens every year on my stretch of nutt rd.
My wife and I clear our sidewalk which is on nutt rd and penn dot blasts the clean walk with 8 inches of icy slop from rt. 23. If you have ever tried to shovel that stuff it will cause a coronary. If it freezes overnight, forget about moving it until the spring thaw. They completely wave our clean sidewalk with the rt 23 snow/salt/slush mix.
Maybe I could get a subsidy from the borough or the state to purchase a small bobcat type machine to lift frozen slush?
If I'm cited after clearing my walks and penndot does it's job, I'll film it next snowfall and report to the next borough meeting.
Anyone have any ideas how to make us happy?
it was less than an inch of snow - come on!!! get a life.
