Philly music legend Al Alberts dies at 87

Al Alberts, who hosted a Philadelphia-based television talent-show for decades, died Friday at his home in Florida at the age of 87.

Although he was a founding member and lead singer of The Four Aces, an all-male harmony group that scored several hits, including "Three Coins in the Fountain," "Tell Me Why," and "Love is a Many Splendored Thing," Al Alberts will forever be remembered as the host "Al Alberts Showcase" which aired on Philadelphia's Channel 6 for 32 years.

His real name was Al Albertini, but with his wife Stella by his side, Al Alberts launched hundreds of careers on "Al Alberts Showcase."

Some of the biggest stars who got their start on "Showcase" include Teddy Pendergrass, Sister Sledge, Andrea McCardle and The Kinleys, a country music sister duo.

The Four Aces sold over 100 million records internationally, according to Al Alberts Web site.

Most recently, Roberts served as executive producer and host of a syndicated radio program called "Harmony."

Anti-Obama rally planned for Philly

The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, which sent 14 buses from the Delaware Valley to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, is holding a rally against President Obama at 4 PM Tuesday, just prior to Obama's appearance at fundraiser for Sen. Arlen Specter at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

From a press released issued by the group:
"We are rallying against Obamacare, Cap and Trade, and this administration's massive expansion of the federal government" said Organizer Chris Clemency. "We want the President to understand that Saturday's march on Washington, attended by at least 1.5 million Americans, is just the beginning of our efforts to stop his agenda."

"In just six short months, President Obama has tripled the deficit and quadrupled the national debt," he said. "Never before in the history of America has the government moved so quickly to spend so much money—it will ultimately lead to high taxation and even higher inflation."
Obama will headline a fund raising dinner for turncoat Arlen Specter, who was elected as a Republican but recently switched to the Democratic Party in order to strengthen his re-election prospects.

"Both Obama and Specter represent the politics of old," said protest organizer Teri Adams. "They do not represent the politics of hope and change." "We will continue to hold these demonstrations and fight on until the American public realizes these men do not represent the people's interests, but their own."

The Independence Hall Tea Party Association is a grassroots organization formed after Philadelphia Tea Party II held on Independence Mall on April 18th as part of the Tax Week Tea Party Protests also held nationwide.

So this is what Democrats mean by change

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, a Barack Obama supporter who ran on a platform of change last year, has announced 800 city job cuts to deal with a potential $1 billion budget shortfall.

Gov. Ed Rendell, a Barack Obama supporter, recently announced $300 million in budget cuts to deal with a state budget deficit that has topped $500 million in just the first four months of the current fiscal year. Legislative leaders say the state's deficit will reach $1.5 billion to $3 billion by next year.

Years of unchecked spending by Democratic politicians are coming home to roost now that the election is over.

In Philadelphia, Nutter plans to close libraries and swimming pools and delay promised business tax cuts to deal with the budget mess the previous Democratic mayor and city council created.

How long will it be before Obama reneges on his tax cut for 95 percent of Americans? That free health care Obama promised? Sorry. Affordable college? Nope. Energy independence? Not without massive new taxes on gasoline and electricity.

Check out this column by Michelle Malkin about the long line of moochers who will expect Obama to deliver lots of government goodies to them.

I hope Obama supporters have enjoyed their non-stop party. It's time to deal with the hangover.

It's time to face reality that this country has been destroyed by Democrats in Congress ... the very same Democrats Obama supporters reelected Tuesday.
