Sorry state

Ed, I’m calling about the State Assembly’s approval recently, OK’ing the slavery apology. More than 100 years after slavery was abolished, the state decides to apologize for a now-meaningless action in which the state took little part. New Jersey was in the North and slavery was in the South.
Short Memory
Slavery played a major part in the history of New Jersey. Check out this link: http://www.slavenorth.com/newjersey.htm.—Ed. Note

I disagree. When an apology should have been given, no one cared, no one spoke up. Now that it's being offered up for purely political reasons, everyone has something to say. It's just plain sad. Words mean nothing. A real form of an apology would be to repay african americans for all their ancestors went through. We're not the first culture to adhere to this idea. Many people were involved in the degradation the slaves had to endure. However if we ever began to point a finger, it would be towards anyone who used the slaves as chattel or property. The industrialists as well as any other business, or organization, that used or purchased and sold slaves. These people should compensate every african american, in some form or fashion. The slaves made them very wealthy people, either through labor or profit. Words mean nothing! And we shouldn't be so quick to forgive and forget how essential we were in building this country. Many businesses produced revenue from our culture. Wealth was obtained as slaves lived and died disregarded and under valued as human beings. We were an intregal part in the development of this country and should be recognized as such. Mere words are just that mere words.

If one culture can receive reparations, so can another. This is one of the only ways people can begin to heal. I don't care how many years ago it happened. People need to be acknowledged for their
contributions to this country. I'm sorry an apology will never be enough. It's easy for someone to say just get over it. No ancester of theirs was ever stolen from their land, shackled and transferred to another world on a slave ship. Forced to work for nothing, tortured, sold and most times murdered after their usefullness had expired. The residue of slavery, can be felt in many ways with many consequences in this country. Yes, I would say, an apology would never be enough.

It's time to get paid, we were forced to work for centuries for free.
