Rider-Manhattan
Somebody has to win tomorrow when struggling Rider plays woeful Manhattan at Draddy Gym. Which team will it be? I'd pick Rider, but right now, there aren't any shoo-ins for the Broncs -- not even against the team that just handed Marist its first win.
A look at the matchup:
SCOUTING RIDER: The Broncs need a win to avoid their worst MAAC start since 2005-06. They’ve lost seven of 13 after a 2-0 start and have fallen far short of early-season expectations. ... Ryan Thompson is averaging 14.5 points — more than three points below his average last year. He’s scored a combined 26 points in his last three games and is coming off a 1-for-10 shooting performance Sunday at Loyola. ... Mike Ringgold (11.7 points, 7.4 rebounds) carried Rider with 21 points and eight rebounds Sunday. ... Novar Gadson (12.3, 7.9) hasn’t scored more than 10 points since Dec. 12 at UMBC, when he scored 16. ... Justin Robinson (12.9 points, 44 percent 3-point shooting) has scored in double figures in five straight games. ... Brandon Penn (4.5 points) will make his second straight start at power forward. ... Jonathon Thompson (2.4 points) provided a spark off the bench with seven points Sunday.
SCOUTING MANHATTAN: The Jaspers, losers of four out of five, are coming off a 2-5 road trip that concluded with a 72-66 loss at previously winless Marist. ... Senior guard Darryl Crawford (15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds) has scored in double figures in all but two games. He’s Manhattan’s top scoring option despite being a non-threat (20 percent) from 3-point range. ... Junior guard Rico Pickett — a transfer from Alabama averaging 13.8 points— scored a season-high 26 points at Marist. ... Senior forward Brandon Adams is averaging six points and 4.8 rebounds. ... Senior guard Patrick Bouli (5 points) had a season-high eight rebounds against Marist but has scored a combined two points in his last two games. ... Senior guard Antoine Pearson (10.9 points, 36 percent 3-point shooting) is a threat off the bench, as are junior forward Andrew Gabriel (6.3 points) and senior guard Nick Walsh, a career 40 percent 3-point shooter.
