Trenton schools get an 'F'

Despite this morning's headlines about the state possibly taking over control of the Trenton school system, the likelihood of that actually happening, for a variety of reasons, is slim.

But holy crap! It's hard to believe the city would need a wakeup call after the report card-tampering scandal at the Sherman Avenue School earlier this year, but they sure as hell got one yesterday with this announcement.

We are so bad at running our public school system that the state is talking about seizing control away from city leaders.

From Mayor Palmer to the city council to the board of education and on down, we should be ashamed of ourselves.

One would expect these leaders to be tripping over themselves today to do something about this. Instead, silence.

With all the rukus going on with the Trenton School District, its amazing no one person has been blamed and dismissed for this fiasco. Early on several names were thrown around regrding accountability in the Sherman Ave incident. These persons were supposedly finishing out their current contract, that's it. Now it seems one of the main players in this soap opera will be getting a new position and the game will continue to be played. It's a shame that from Palmer on down our children are dispensible. City council made a big stink about the issue and now that King Lytle refused to return and answer for his part in the show, everything has died down. Yet, Palmer (the ring leader) issues his reactive statement threatening the current superientendent clean this mess up within his first year. Seems to me that Lytle used up several years to make this mess. Lofton should be given at least half as much time to fix it.

Ed. What ever happened to integrity in education. I teach at the Trenton School District and you should hear some of the comments my fellow collegues make at our meetings. Word is that Palmers hand picked board is nothing but a bunch of educational raiders who use their positions of power for their own game. It's gotten so bad that jobs are created for people who continue to play their games. The big to do about the Sherman Avenue situation, was nothing more than a smoke screen opportunity for certain board members to flex their I'll get back to that staff member muscle. If the scores in the district continue to decline, the blame who be positively placed on the farse called board members. Trenton students are the last ones on Trenton School Board members minds, and Palmer knows it. As Palmer continues to use Trenton as his lap dog,as he jockey's for a position in Hillary's camp, he could care less. What ever he has to leave behind after raiding and disregarding his responsibilities in this town, will in deed be left behind. Trenton was no more than a stepping stone for Palmer and I can only hope that the citizens of this city recognize that he still and always will be for his own interests.

The Trenton school district is also an employment mill for Palmer's political cronies.Even with a high school diploma his cronies can make $80,000 in the school district and positions can be created for them. The district did not hire LA Parker's daughter because as a classroom teacher she would have first hand knowledge of the corruption and of course tell him and she might be a good teacher . There is money in failure so why bring a potentual good teacher into the district.
