Smith taking it slow

Jason Smith is still on crutches nearly two months after surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

That’s taking it slowly.

But the crutches don’t give Smith, the Sixers’ 7-0 forward, a pass on rehab. He’s at the gym in the morning and goes for about two-and-a-half hours, riding a stationery bike and working in the pool.

“The pool is basically my best friend, just a lot of water resistance, low-impact,” Smith said. “A little bit of stuff in the weight room as far as core training, but that’s about it.”

Smith is out for the season after injuring the knee during Tim Grgurich’s camp in Las Vegas this past summer.
