What will the draft bring?

The 76ers shocked a lot of NBA observers during last year’s draft when they took Thaddeus Young with the 12th pick overall. Projected to go in the late teens or higher, Young so far has looked worth the gamble, making the second-team All-rookie squad.

This year, the Sixers hold the 16th pick in next Thursday’s draft. As of today, they’ve held three workout sessions with prospects, but only a handful of them were of the caliber to use a mid-first round pick on. The rest, primarily local kids, were invited in as a courtesy and possible summer league roster fillers.

The Sixers also worked out DeAndre Jordan privately and traveled up to New Jersey to see Kosta Koufos and Anthony Randolph.

Other possibilities, assuming the player the Sixers take bothered to work out for them, are Marreese Speights, JaVale McGee, Donte Green, Ryan Anderson and J. J. Hickson.

Or it could be someone else entirely. The Sixers are still trying to coax more players in as the days wind down.

Whoever it is, don’t expect instant impact because it’s unlikely to happen. But that doesn’t mean you won’t get a glimpse here and there during the upcoming season.
