I do not have a comment on this but the animal control in C-Ville is another disgrace to our city. Counsel is full of it to say they are not taking it lightly. If someone in my family is injured by a stray animal, you will have a lawsuit on your hands. Better get your act togehter counsel.
I was kinda hopin for Lt. Rita, though. She does meet ALL the criteria for chief, and has worked HARD to clean up the city and overcome gender issues within the department.
once again council is lowering the standards, changing the criteria, that they set for the police chief.
i'm against this choice, he does not qualify...he knew he wanted this job and had 21 yrs. to meet the criteria, and didn't. i hope council will insist on the residency qualification.
if 21yrs experence on the job, makes a degree unneccessary for a police chief, i guess we should look forward to all the great teacher aides who have 21 yrs. on the job becoming teachers...c'ville didn't modify the criteria for experience for matthews , and they shouldn't modify it now...
if i'm a dr's asst. for 21 yrs. can i become a dr. without a degree
Having a degree does not always make one the best qualified for the job. I've met and worked with individuals who have degrees, and still aren't the most qualified for the job. Practical, first-hand experience by far out weighs mere "book learning". The theory behind things doesn't always work, but learning from experience does work. I do not have a degree, but I can keep up with those that do.
Canale has so much to offer the City. He has experienced so many situations in 21 years that provides him with what the position requires. Give the man a chance...you're judging before you have anything to judge him on.
We will see if anything changes. Or will this summer bring more of the same, shootings like the okay corral on the streets where children should be playing....
...Pit bulls running around like they own the street also (oh yeah, no animal control officer).
...Loud music (if you call it music) in English and dare I say other languages. Sit in your yard and enjoy peace and quiet. Nah, not around here.
Best of luck to him and God bless all the officers, but please come patrol a bit more and see what we enjoy on a daily basis.....
A degree might not make a person a better Chief, but the point remains that it is a REQUIREMENT according to Coatesville. What message are we sending out? Lt. Shesko should have had the job. If Canale wanted that job so bad, he should have gone to night school to get his degree.
Animal COntrol- SUCKS in general for Chester County. Stray cats being picked up in Coatesville by the SPCA costs the complainant a lot of money. Why isn't something done about this? One of our neighbors has dogs run loose all the time crapping on our grass. They know it, and the kids watch in amusement when they do it.
Im getting ready to throw it back at the kids when they bring 'em down!
if you set the requirements, then make sure the requirements are met, if experience can substitute for a degree, then that's stated in the requirements....all the fuss about the last chief for not meeting the requirements, now someone else who arrogantly did nothing to qualify for a job, that he was passed over for how many times in 21 yrs. (how many chiefs have aoatesville had in 21 yrs)
canale has been around a long time, he has done some good and some not so good things (as we all have), there is plenty to judge him on.
there is at least a qualified police for chief in coatesville, where the standards won't have to be lowered.
the degree and residency requirement was set by the search committee the first time around... there is no rule in the book that states it is mandatory for the chief to meet both or even one of the requirements...
Canale DID live in Coatesville for a number of years on Charles St. He moved outside of town because he wanted a bigger house. Not a problem in my book. A college degree? What do they teach you about police work in college?? Let's give him a chance first.
The issue here really is the following: if the previous chief had to fall under the qualifications for employment why should the current be held to a different standard? I don't have any issue with Chief Canale but Council dropped the ball on this one. I was there when Council said 'we will follow the process to the letter' when hiring a new chief. However 2 weeks later pulled a 180 and did the opposite. If you're going to change things for the better here in Coatesville, one of the first things we have to do is standardize things. Don't shoot from the hip and not follow the rules set in place. Walker said when they appointed Chief Canale that the criteria used by the search firm was their criteria and not the City's. Huh? Another example of double talk. A search firm works for a client and is presented with qualifications and finds candidates based on that. For Walker to say different is simply lying. Par for the course for him. Of course what do you expect when you hire a candidate because he sounds like a good guy rather then they doing things by the book.
The same people that are thanking GOD for Canale are more than likely the same ones that wanted Matthews gone. No big problem with Canale, but the same standards should apply. Let's just hope that he can be fair to all segments of the population. I've heard some good things and some not so good things.
No see I disagree if anything we need more information about Coatesville. If you want things to change the people need to know what is going on. Unless of course you want to live the definition of insanity and do things over and over again and expect a different result. I don't so keep it up.
I agree! I want to hear EVERYTHING that is going on around here. I could care less about a West Chester blog, I live in Coatesville and I will be voting for a CHANGE and hope that everyone else will too. Enough is enough, there are people on the ballot this time that are willing to help bring about that change.
As for the Daily Local staying out of Coatesville's business, well it's their business to report the news. Perhaps if Coatesville's website was working (yawn) we could get some news there? They've provided more information online in the past couple of years than our public information officer will probably provide. I might be wrong....
That is unless you like things the way they are. We have options this time.
Can someone please enlighten me as to the bad things that Canale has done in the past? It's always good to know what you're dealing with than not know.
It is about time that Canale is appointed chief. He has proved himself through the years. The people screaming about "meeting criteria for the chief's position" should remember that the past chief never fulfilled his. He kept making excuses because of his health. If his health was that bad, he should not have been involved in police work which is a grueling job especially in Coatesville. I wish the best for CHIEF CANALE. It's about time!!
It is good to have a true Coatesville person put in the position as Chief, he will care more about what is going on. But he can only do so much because of the City Counsel and Manager, get Harry Walker out and new counsel and maybe things will change.

Thank god is right he deserves it and has the respect of the officers. Best of luck to him.

Where is the West Chester Roundtable? The Daily Loco needs to stay out of Coatesville's business.

I see another shooting at the Elks. Boy, the new chief had better get on his job. Seems like more of the same to me.
