Budding Journalist

Holy Child Academy Third Grader Bobby Straub enjoys writing so much that he has started his own weekly newspaper, The Daily Straub. Peppered with anecdotes from home and school, Bobby writes articles about the week's events and shares his opinions on various issues. "I started the paper to keep my family in the loop," Bobby explained. "I wanted them to know what happened in school for both me and my brother, Sam." In "publication" for the past few weeks, Bobby said that the best part of writing the paper is giving it out to his parents and teachers. "I've added a 'Comments' section to the paper for my readers to give me feedback - so far everyone has really liked it, and that makes me feel good!"Bobby's Third Grade teacher, Ms. Hoffman, encouraged him to write the paper. "When I realized that he was doing this on his own, I asked Bobby to bring in a copy for me to read each week," said Ms. Hoffman. "Bobby has a real interest in journalistic writing, and practicing each week with his own family newspaper helps to foster this talent." Another benefit to the classroom is that The Daily Straub has inspired other children in the Third Grade to start writing their own newspapers!Holy Child Academy is an independent, Catholic, co-educational school for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.
