WHO SHOULD BE ALL-DELCO?
This time of year is fun for a number of reasons: For one, the games begin to matter more (the same goes for every possession).
And we get closer to naming an All-Delco team.
I have about 10 players in consideration for the six spots available on the All-Delco boys basketball team (five players - one for each position - plus the Daily Times Player of the Year).
I try to allow the readers of this blog and of the newspaper an outlet to make their cases for their favorite players. So here's your chance, but I do have two rules. If you're going to provide an argument in favor of a player, you have to:

- Be respectful of other teams and other players. After all, we're talking about high school student-athletes, not pros.
- Cut the bad mouthing and the foul language. Keep it clean. Because when you state your case for a player and include curses in your blog comments, you indirectly represent that player and school.

All Delco:
Aaric Murray
Rahlir Jefferson
Tyree Johnson
Calvin Newell
Soultiri Sapnas
Rahlir Jefferson - Player of the Year
I think the list posted by Anonymous is right on. I would however consider Nelson from Chester. I saw Chester a lot this summer and they looked really average at best because they had no true pt. guard. When Nelson joined the team they became a legite contendor, anyone who knows high school bball knows pt guards decide games.
Aaric murruy
rahlir jefferson
tyree johonson
duaune johnson
DJ irving should be on the All delco team as a point guard. He has averaged the most points and assists at the point guard position out of all the point guards
Rahlir Jefferson
Aaric Murray
Soutiri sapnas
Duane Johnson
Dj Irving
P.O.Y = Calvin Newell
Newell is by far the best player in this county. On a team where they probably wouldn't win a game he personally took them on his back into the district championship. I find it's a lot harder to take nothing into a AAA district championship then it is to take a powerhouse (Chester) into a AAAA 5th place game. Where's the small school love?? Also after watching Haven I wouldn't exclude their big man Jack Roberts from the All-Delco discussion either.. This man gets 15Rebs and 10 blocks a game.. Just hope they don't get slighted for being AAA that's all. Quick note.. Even In a blowout loss to Penn wood newell still had 30 before garbage time commenced.
Aaric Murray
DJ Irving
Rahlir Jefferson
Calvin Newell
Soutri sapnas
Rahlir Jefferson - Player of the Year
Aaric Murray - Best rebounder
Rahlir Jefferson - Best all-round player
DJ Irving - Best point guard
Calvin Newell - Volume shooter
Soutri Sapnas - Volume shooter
Maurice Nelson - Best 3-point shooter
I'd go Murray, Jefferson, Tyree Johnson, Newell, and DJ Irving.
Jefferson is player of the year.
District 1 AAA is not very tough at all. Never really has been. Newell had a great year but they haven't beaten a good team all year. Newell has a green light that none of these kids have so he scores in bunches. He just pulls all game. Strath Haven would have lost in the second round in 4A and they would not have made it very far in the bracket for 9th place. Good player, all delco worthy...player of the year over a kid like Jefferson who is 19 and 11 every night, not to mention his defensive presence??? I don't think so.
Mo Nelson isn't a PG. He's a 2G.
Penn Wood, Chester, & Archbishop Carroll were the best teams in the county this year. Norristown was District 1 AAAA champions and Archbishop Carroll easily beat Norristown by double digits. Carroll should get at least 1 player on the All-delco team:
Rahlir Jefferson
Aaric Murray
DJ Irving
Tyree Johnson
Calvin Newell
Alternates:
Soutri Sapnas
Maurice Nelson
Juany'a Green
Duane Johnson
I'm gonna look at it a little diferently...i'm going who i would select if i was picking the best overall team to go farthest in states...So offensive numbers and team wins may not mean a much as how i think these players would complememt each other...
Aaric murray..starting at center.overall a monster
Jack Roberts..at power forward..best defender in delco
Rahlir Jefferson..small forward...thats his college position..and he'd probably be my MVP
Aaron Brown...Guard...Stud potential..getting paid potential
Calvin Newell..PG...it sounds crazy but I've seen him play AAU and he can run the show with talent..
6th man...Sapnas...like vinnie johnson..he's the microwave and is a closer in the late quarters
just a different persspective...murray, jefferson, and newell obvious picks...roberts is most underated player in delco, and brown may be next years best player...sapnas has been consistent two years in a row..apologies to Both Johnson's at PENNWOOD, and Glass at GLen MILLS, Irving, and nelson.
Penn Wood is loaded with talent that underachieves. None of their players are outstanding or superstars, hence it is difficult to select who their best players are. They are all equally talented.
The All Delco team should be:
Rahlir Jefferson/Power Forward - Shotblocker, Rebounder, Scorer
Aaric Murray/Center - Shotblocker, Rebounder
Duane Johnson - Small Forward
DJ Irving/Point Guard - Assist, Scorer
Calvin Newell/Shooting Guard - Scorer
Under Consideration:
Soutri Sapnas - Scorer
Maurice Nelson - Scorer
Tyree Johnson - Assist
Aaron Brown - Rebounder
Shawn Oakman - Shotblocker, Rebounder
Kasheef Festus - Rebounder
Jack Roberts - Shotblocker, Rebounder
Duane Johnson- Player of the year
Aaric Murray
Rahlir Jefferson
Tyree Johnson
Calvin Newell
Mo Nelson
Soultiri Sapnas
Calvin Newell
Rahlir Jefferson
Duane Johnson
Aaric Murray
P.O.Y. - Soutiri Sapnas - MVP, who broke many School Records as a Junior. When is this announced?
Newell
Sapanas
Jefferson
Murray
Irving
Ty Johnson
P.O.Y=Newell or Jefferson
Murray
Jefferson
Newell
Sapnas
Nelson
P.O.Y = Jefferson
chris when are the announcements goingto be made? And is it still trhee teams or only two?
First off, thanks for the feedback. I saw there were a couple questions on here, so I'll address/answer as many as I can:
1. Six players are on the All-Delco team (five First-Teamers and the Player of the Year).
2. The Daily Times names First-, Second-, and Third-teams, all with six players.
3. The All-Delco boys basketball package will run during All-Delco week, beginning Monday March 30. My guess is boys hoops will appear Friday, April 3.
Hope this helps. Thanks for reading.
