Break up the Sixers
Somebody break up the Sixers. Quick.
Anybody? Ed Stefanski?
The suddenly red-hot 76ers rolled to their fifth straight win last night at the Wachovia Center, beating the 119-97. No, it was not a defensive classic.
But that's not the point. The Sixers are going about this all wrong.
At this rate, they could play well enough to somehow stumble into the playoffs - and get eliminated again in quick fashion.
In the process they will assure they remain what they have been for too long - entirely mediocre. They won't get into the draft lottery. They'll remain a middle-of-the-pack afterthought on the Philly sports scene.
What this team really needs is to be blown up. That's now in Stefanski's hands. Go ahead, Ed. Push the plunger.
If you can find someone to take Andre Iguodala and that ridiculous contract, do it. Same for Sam Dalembert.
Want to know prett much everything you need to know about where the Sixers stand. Try this number: 5,000. That's about how many people were actually rattling around the Wachovia Center to watch them last night. Sure, another winter storm was bearing down on the area. That's part of the problem. But not the biggest part.
The team is nowhere, going no place.
It's time for radical change.
