Soldiers for Hope community packing day

Driving past Council Rock South High School last Saturday, you might think it was just another day. Dozens of students gathered on the overcast morning to practice tennis and softball, while still more were hoping to get one more crack at the SATs before the end of the school year.
But it was a different story on the first floor of the Northampton Township school, as hundreds of volunteers scurried to assemble over 4,000 care packages for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Organized by Soldiers for Hope, a non-profit organization whose mission is to give soldiers "a piece of home," the community packing day brought nearly 200 area residents and supporters to the high school to donate and pack everything from razors and toothpaste to granola bars and thank you cards.
