Foot Traffic
I was looking at the new businesses that have moved into Phoenixville in the last two years; Artisans Café, Iron Hill Brewery, Molly Maguire’s, La Creperie, Black Lab, Brown Cow, and it’s fairly obvious that many of Phoenixville’s new establishments are food or alcohol related. The fear of having limited shopping variety is that eateries and such do not provide foot traffic in town needed to further Phoenixville’s revitalization. Speaking of foot traffic, I also noticed the other week that they have placed a sign on the corner of Main St. and Bridge informing people that there are businesses located on Main St.
So I raise the question to you, “Is this a problem? Should the leaders and the town itself try to focus on attracting other types of businesses to the area?” And if so, how could this be accomplished?
Additionally, how to do we attract more foot traffic and general awareness to the businesses that are located on Main St?

Well, for one, how about the Borough or downtown Manager putting up signs at the crosswalks reminding motorists to STOP (yes, i know it's a dirty four-letter word). I do believe it's a law passed a few years ago that is not enforced in PA like it is in other states that have the law. Too bad.
I believe that there have been many critical of the Main Street Manager that have been calling for a more diverse plan for the downtown that would increase foot traffic during the day. Hey Manny, how about some more office space instead of a 14 story condo tower.
I think the stores that move in need to be unique, and become destination stores. One can't simply open a clothing store and "hope". Along with a nice atmosphere, it is the businesses themselves that create the foot traffic (or not). The same applies to the restaraunts; Black lab, Molly's and Iron Hill are all unique places of destination.
See the Main St. Manager needs to bring in bars, because they are quick and easy set ups. Mr. Ponytail also needs to show his boss Manny Sr and Jr. that bars can make money in Phoenixville. I better be careful, he may hire a lawyer to find out who wrote this....
These bars are not unique, they all charge $4 or more per pint. The only thing that they do have in common is that they did not burn down.
The Borough and CDC can't play nicely amongst each other, and the Borough is more focused on sticking it to CDC than caring about their downtown. They bring in Cassidy to improve things, and when things begin to turn around, they want to take control of him instead of supporting him. I guess the success of the downtown won't "benefit" a few members in their pockets so they insist on making things difficult, and then blame Cassidy. Typical Phoenixville. You can have all of your monthly festivals and First Fridays, but without the inane pressure and lack of support, this will continue to be a former steel town staying in status quo. Hopefully the new members of council will follow a new playbook and practice what they preached prior to election. It would also be beneficial to keep those who've been ousted to keep them from joining any other form of local government or committees. There is a reason they weren't re-elected. Don't shuffle them off to another committee just to keep their name and rep out there. Simply send them away.
